Why / How do the animatronics actually kill you?

In the first game it is stated that the animatronics think you're a skeleton without a suit and stuff you in one, which of course kills you.

How ever, in the second game, the phone guy mentions that during the night, they think they're in the wrong room and just go look for some people. He doesn't mention why searching for people makes them kill people and what method of killing they use.

Now, I am not entirely sure of everything. I think I remember that he also talked about the old animatronics in this game and how THEY would stuff you into a suit because you don't have one, but I think he never explains further what motivation the new animatronics have. (Please correct me if he does say something like that)

The Musical version paints a different picture. There, it says that animatronics from FNF1 aren't hostile, even if they are terrifying and pop up everywhere. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the phone call say they just wander around?

Rather, Spring Trap is the aggressor and the Purple Man uses him to kill. (Of course, Spring Trap IS the Purple Man in the games.)
