LEGO Worlds had the potential, but the designers blew it.
LEGO has brick types that are far more diversified than what Minecraft has. Just THAT fact alone could make a LEGO open-world build-what-you-want video game leap ahead of Minecraft. Just look at the landscapes in LEGO Worlds. Far more detailed than Minecraft. Minecraft is a billion dollar open-world build-what-you-want video game. It's hard to see LEGO Worlds ever reaching that given its cumbersome, awkward, frustrating third-person building mechanics.

Perhaps the designers are locked into some building philosophy that centers around minifigures. Like: we want to sell sets with minifigures so lets make LEGO Worlds promote minifigures - by always being at the center of our attention - over ease of use.

That's too bad. LEGO Worlds ends up being compromised to sell LEGO sets, instead of being a very easy to use and potentially far superior video game than Minecraft.

Oh, and if you are the designers, please prove me wrong and include a first-person building option.

To Matt who deleted his post.
You misread my post. I complimented LEGO Worlds for its diversified set of bricks. In comparison Minecraft is inferior, and this is why LEGO Worlds has the potential to outshine Minecraft. My criticism is directed at the third person building mechanics.

It doesn't need to outshine Minecraft. It's a completely different game.

People need to stop trying to fit these two games in a box to compare.

It woudl not be fault of designers but of lego managers, they did the same with lego universe resulting in a game wich doesn't know where to go, i doubt they had learn the lesson but infact if you want total freedom to ur fantasy you need RL legos.

you do realize that if you use WASD you can MOVE the camera whilst building? Also, the game came out a few days ago. I think it's safe to say they didnt "blow it"

You are looking for a secret hidden agenda where there is none.

Yeah, I suspect too that the designers are constrained by LEGO management.

Well, a very reasonable guess is that the game is made to promote the purchase of LEGO sets and in particular sets with patented minifigures.

Lego Universe was destroyed by a horrible business model, nothing more. You can't expect people to pay for a game and then pay for subscription. This is a hard lesson also learned by Elder Scrolls Online.

I think it shoudl be obvious too, think to games like magic, what if ppl just buy the virtual version and drop the RL thing? It would result in a huge loss of money for them since with virtual versions you can:

save hundresds and hundreds of money
no need of space
no worry about to loss a piece.
Do multiple constructions with the same number of pieces and potentialy have all of them saved.
etcetc.

You realize this is early access, right? It's not done. Not by a long shot. They have time to respond to comments, fix things, and add to the game before release.

That was another cause yes, but not the only one, i invite you to put an eye on this link, very explaining:

A decent article. Largely weighted toward MMO's which I would remind everyone THIS IS NOT. Plus this isn't just a lego game this is a TTGames Lego game. I think their past performance on Lego should speak for itself. I have faith in this particular developer that I wouldn't normally have with another.

(And I'm a recent convert to TTGames, I actually didn't care for the original Lego Star Wars games all the way up to 3, found them kind of dull. I actually didn't come back onboard until The Lego Movie Game and the Lego Batman 3. I feel one can see elements of what is planned for the open world nature of this game, by little things in Lego Batman 3 and Lego City Undercover.)

Yeah, I'm hoping they hear our complaints, loud and clear, and give us the option of first person building mechanics
tajlund Jun 7, 2015 @ 10:27am
Not sure where first person would really benefit on building. Unless you're talking about subterranean it doesn't really have a point. With the size of the lego blocks and the intricacy of designs it is much more suited toward a pan and view adjustable camera. Like a more functional verson of LDD.
