I would say no. I also have a 5 year old. She can play minecraft in creative because that is straight forward placment of blocks and what not but in this game it's not so straightforward. There's a lot of menu usage and at the moment the camera controls are extremely awkward for building.

It has an open world, though at the moment all it really is is running around and finding things. Content-wise, it's Legos. If your girl can handle real Legos, then the game is fine. Control-wise, if she can actually play it, I don't know.

I would say yes if it wasn't for the current controls....it can be tricky placing blocks at times

thank you so far for the considerate inputs, i really appreciate it.

Not so much.
To add to what Ishka said,:

No Peaceful Mode - She would eventually get killed over and over by skeletons.
Movement can be tricky
Endless World for all intents and purposes.
Menus not very intuitive.

Maybe with some adult help she would love it though. Ride polar bears and such.

well she would have fun running around punchin blocks n stuff but. as for building block by block is a little complex so not THAT simple.

Instances like chosing a block using the mouse to place it. Pressing keys to turn block in different angle. deleting blocks....copy/paste blocks. clicking on a block to move it...... changing sizes of building radius with keys.... So it is a bit complex and it would take time to teach.

To unlock stuff like helicopters and planes and character skins and other mounts and such you have to find them and chase them down.

In the current state not at all, it's still early in developpement, and some functions are still mysterious for us, adults ^^
Also, there are currently not a large amount of things to do apart from helping the developpers make the game better. But once the game will be more refined (maybe something like 5 or 6 monthes to 1 year), she could enjoy playing it. Just be patient, it will be awesome.
You can still let her wait with other lego games though, (they are way more accessible for children)

The skeletons should be simple to teach how to combat...and I honestly don't see them that frequently

At the moment the only way I can build effectively, or use the menu's for anything is to actually use both the controller AND the mouse. Way too complex for a 5 year old at this stage for sure. :) My girl has been looking at it interested watching me play but I know to put her in there to play she would be very frustrated with it after only a couple of minutes.

Depends on the child. Mine freaks out any time anything 'bad' in a game attacks her atm. She just wants nice easy, peaceful creative worlds. Even in infinity she will only play in a brand new toybox that isn't one that has monster spawners. lol

I shot one with my dragon fireball. It didn't die and 5 more came running. I flew away a bit, but they ran after me and attacked me when I landed. So... most times ok, but as more and more spawn, or you get into a mess of them...

Aaaaah ok....19 and no kids so I guess I can't really have a say huh? :P I didn't think about how each child is different

I have noticed how the dragon's fireball is underpowered when it comes to NPCs...I never had a mass of skeletons attack, I think the most was 3 and that was in a pyramid....hm...then again I hardly ever sit stil long enough to see

I've noticed that the second you attack a skeleton, more constantly spawn very close to you and chase after you. It's very, very annoying.

The menu is easily more manageable with a controller, but I do fine with my mouse. It's just clunkier.

As for content? Yes, it's kid-friendly.

My 3 year old plays this game using an Xbox controller.

He even navigates the crappy menu without much trouble. The only thing he struggles with sometimes is the camera, which I don't blame him lol

Anyways, he loves finding items and new characters. I just kicked him off the game to get ready for bed and he had dug a tunnel through a mountain using a witches fireballs, he was quite proud.
