Is Building Brick-by-Brick Fun?
I don't own the game, so all of this is been written through what I've seen.

I was watching gameplay videos and I noticed how building brick by brick looked really slow and tedious. It wasn't at all like Minecraft where building was more personalized, it seemed like building in this was more of a chore --carefully rotating the camera to place each brick, almost as if you were using a separate tool to build outside of the game. Even though in Minecraft you weren't zoomed out so far, and it was first person, building seemed a lot faster.

I realize they are both totally different games, but is building brick by brick fun? As oppose to Minecraft's building.

Just wondering because the game looks pretty cool overall, just building looks sort of weird. And I do know that since it's 'Early Access' things will change, but I'm just wondering about the current state of it.

edit: thank you Dr.Skittles and blizzard for answering : )

Do you think it's fun to build brick-by-brick in the real world?

Use big bricks and pretend it's Minecraft

I remember I had fun, but building brick-by-brick seemed a lot more tedious in-game from what I've seen.

I can't really compare the two though, since I haven't played the game for myself.

Hmmm, using bigger bricks doesn't change how building is done though, or does it?

It is a little more tedious, but I think that's largely because of a couple of factors.
1) it's new and people are still not used to the controls.
2) The camera angles are super awkward and constantly have to be readjusted. It seems a lot of people are vocal in their desire to have that changed, so hopefully that can be fixed.

Otherwise, once you get in the hang of it, it's not too bad, it actually feels pretty good to click things together. But you're right, it is early access, so it's still a little wonky. Ignore the trolls.

You should also bear in mind--Minecraft megabuilds ARE tedious. That's how they get so absurdly detailed. Lego is the same way--it operates on a smaller scale so you have more options to place bricks, which gives you a lot more detail. You can always just use the classic 2x4 bricks however.

If they made the building like how you would build in Blockland, it wouldn't be that tedious.
You select a shap brick and then place it down, and the you can duplicate it, maybe even save a build so you can load it again afterwards.
And eventing, so you could build machines or little arcade machines.

I see. I don't think I really took that into account, megabuilds in Minecraft do probably get out of control really quickly, I suppose having the zoomed out camera and the ability to work around your creation would come in handy with bigger things.

Is it still easy to throw smaller things together with a bit of practice? Like a small house or something of that sort?

I think it is, yes. You can use the classic shift+click to rapidly place the same brick, and there is a small submenu for recently used bricks so you can quickly utilize the same...eight? I don't remember off the top of my head how many brick shapes can go on the menu. And you can always customize teh colour, so if you're building simple things, that should be enough right there I suppose.

Regarding megabuilds, those are the types of people I see really using this game to its full potential. I've done some large builds in MC, though perhaps not on the scale of megabuild cities, and the FPV in MC gets rather irritating, more so than third person placement in Lego Worlds. However, it is almost the exact opposite for precise internal things--the camera is unsuitable for getting inside of a hallway and decorating, for example. A lot of people are pushing for a FPV that can be toggled, which would largely solve most of the current camera issues (there are a couple others, but not as irritating as the inability to be precise with FPV internally)

Being able to copy and paste greatly speeds things up. I wrote this up in the sticky on building criticism.

Ursprünglich geschrieben von Sirisian:
Another tree that would be useful would be a "favorites". Or a "blueprints" tree. Being able to copy a group of bricks. Not a region of bricks like the current system. I want to select exactly the bricks I want and add them to a group to be used later. I started building a train station and realized the tracks required a lot of copying and pasting. Being able to quickly save favorite brick groups that I can access from a tree on the right would be invaluable. Same for building architecture. Being able to select a window style and save it to access again quickly would help a lot. I mention a tree because there could be folders. Then we could explore and share them with friends. This would be useful with multiplayer later.

Basically what we need are a lot more building tools. They'll probably come later though. Right now it can be a bit tedious.
Also what Sirisian says, 100% agree on necessity of saving 'groups'/'blueprints' for quick building.
Brick by brick has iffy controls, camera, user interface, etc. right now. There have been several suggestions about improving it. It's almost impossible to see your model at certain times of day so the day needs locked, etc. It could be fun once those are fixed, and actually snapping the pieces are nice.

There are very limited blocks available right now so you can't even make one of the basic architectural models from instructions, but eventually I'm hoping more pieces are added.

If your reason for buying is brick by brick, I'd suggest waiting a little longer for it to improve during Early Access. :)

brick by brick building chould use some more work on it and making more user friendly and easly with a feature like adding propperties such as emit light, water, lava, spin and open and shut like a door.i suggest a lot part(invisible plate) so what ever you build there whould't be affected by the world and you whould't accident remove a brick form the world and you can more the build any way and even save it and also and othe option to free brick remover more of less like how the building in game.

let me ask you a question.. Have you ever played with Legos growing up?
If so, did you have fun?

If the answer is Yes...then well there's your answer to your question.
I like it
