Lego Worlds in Education
I would like to establish a working group looking at the possibility of using Lego Worlds in an Educational setting. The immersive nature of the platform lends itself perfectly to a huge variety of Literacy based learning experiences and the design elements speak for themselves. But what other learning experiences could be created? What would the pitfalls be? Would the UI need a different layer of controls to make Educational use feasible? Would cost be prohibitive after launch?

Jump in and let me know your thoughts...

If TT takes the game that way it could be used for designing machines. I mean there is an animated oil pump and windmill in the game, so hopefully down the line they'll put in the ability to make vehicles and at least animated machines.

Not quite. I currently use MinecraftEdu as a learning platform and would love to explore the possibility of using Lego Worlds in the classroom. It would be better to get like minded Steam Community members talking about this now, while the game is in development, rather than waiting for its release and then working out why it wouldn't work.

I already have minecraft.edu at my school (I am a science teacher) and am eager to see how LEGO can be used in the class as well.

OK the post I was replying to just disappeared after I posted. LOL. Kuri that's a great idea. Maybe with the addition of Technic elements?

Oh man am I hoping so as Technic elements are already shown in the game on some of the models, namely the oil pump I spoke of and some of the vehicles. Easily seen on the steamroller and Cole's driller buggy.

That's great. What are your initial impressions of the Lego Worlds experience in comparison?
I'm always happy to see people trying to use games in Education and Lego Worlds seems like a good option. Thumbs up!

Has anyone figured out the world generation coordinates yet? It'd be useful to be able to generate a world with specific biomes directly from the world gen page.

I came here to ask the same question. Glad to see it's also on other peoples minds. With MincraftEdu, and KerbalEdu, it seems like a growing trend with these types of games.

Hopefully Lego will respond to this.

Those of you that have experience with Minecraft in the classroom, what are some good beginner resources? My mom is the director of our public library, and I'm helping her set up some gamification activities there.

Thanks!

I think that LDD should be in a lot of classrooms. It can give you a bit of an idea for CAD and computer modelling.
