The Big Problem With Building
The brick-by-brick building tool is finicky and rather difficult to use, as we all know. If you want to build a Lego creation on the computer, right now it's just best to use LDD. And I think that really should change. And this is how.

The big, real problem with building something by-by-brick in Lego Worlds is that you have to do it in the in-game world. That means you have to deal with distractions, uneven terrain, and all sorts of stuff like that. If you want to build something, you have to build it pretty much exactly where you want it. You can copy it and save it as a model, but that is also rather difficult and can copy terrain accidentally.
The solution to this—have a Model Editor. An entirely different screen off-world that you can jump into when you open the brick-by-brick editor. Then Model Editor would be, in essence, a lot like LDD. A flat grid that you could build on in peace. The Model Editor would also make implementing hinges and things a lot easier, and in general make building waaaay less of a hassle.
This is nothing like Minecraft (as far as I know), but it seems to me it's the best way to build with Legos on the computer. Legos aren't square blocks you stack—they're much more. There are hundreds upon hundreds of bricks that function in far more sophisticated ways. Legos are just too complicated to be easily assembled within the complications and distractions of an in-game world, at least in my opinion.
In addition, a Model Editor would also make custom vehicle building far easier to implement, which is something a lot of people seem to want (myself included).

So, what do you guys think of this idea?

I don't know what to think of it, but I would prefer the building in-game to become easier and easier as development makes it better with an added time control perhaps? (freeze day time and enemies)

You're right about the time control, they'll need to add something like that. However, all characters already stop all movement (other then animations) while you are building.

Yes, I'm eagerly waiting for info on update two, also.

That would be nice. But building in an off-world editor would eliminate that problem entirely, as well as many others.

Well, that would have fit in quite nicely if this game had regular terrain instead of terrain made of LEGO Bricks and had the building system used by LU properties. But since all the things you build are part of the terrain, I an off-world editor would stick out like a sore thumb.

Eh, no more than the select and export tool does, I think.

In fact, the select and export tool could serve as a base to create what the OP suggests. Nevertheless I still think we need to see the existing toolsets improve before we jump to sequestering them in their own separate editor, as all that would amount to now would be the same cumbersome controls in a void space.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing this come around at some point for more free form building so as to create attachments to structures without having to start along some reference plane as is currently sort of the case.

They should just bundle LDD with the game (or provide an in-game download), then use LDD (or at least, a simplified version of it) within Lego Worlds to create and save models.

NO, it works great.:::steamfacepalm:

a blue wireframe per chunk along with chunk coordinates would be lovely and would make it child easy for both copying parts and merging them to create larger structures!
I will draw to demonstrate and post the drawing (going to the drawing program as I type)
here it is: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=497398710
it can simultaneously show the floor chunk grid!
