Judging by your screenshots you are working with a sub 1080p resolution so if the camera is an issue for smaller screens it does need some work. Maybe the easiest solution would be a button to temporarily disable the cut away feature on the building camera when it isn't suitable for the job at hand.
My issue is that the interface is far too large, which obviously doesn't hinder building like your problem.
I play on a 21" screen, it doesn't seem that small for me :/
The UI is too large too I agree.
The way the camera worked previously made building in tight interiors a battle with the camera, I often ended up dismantling walls just to make changes to an interior. The new camera solved that for me but I get how it's counterproductive if you want to work up close on an exterior.
Are you certain your 21" screen doesn't support a 1920x1080 resolution? It would add 40% more pixels compared to the 1600x900, perhaps not enough to solve the problem entirely but it should mitigate it somewhat.
As a bat the camera could go inside a building without to much trouble I was doing ok with it not optimal I would say, but better than working from miles away. Also I didn't try to build with another character.. maybe the bat is messing things now... Who knows.
I'll try with 1920x1080.
The sims option that mentioned Kek seems quite nice. I hope it will inspire TTgames.
You should be able to set windowed borderless at full resolution. Acts like fullscreen but has the smooth alt+tabbing of windowed.
So after some tests with full resolution windowed and borderless, I think I nailed the problem :
My building got some kind of balcony (it's not the right word, but I can't put an english word to it, sorry ! ^^ Un haut vent si y'a du français dnas le coin).
When the camera hits this balcony *puff* bricks disappear...
So if I work my camera slightly to the corner of the building (but not right on the corner, it will cause the same problem) so it doesn't collapse with the balcony and I can close up more.
To illustrate this camera angle here my best close up :

and if I turn the camera a bit...

I still can't close up like I used to, but it's more playable for my eyes.
And I still think I had less problem before the update (I could go inside my building with the bat form of the vampire without too much trouble, less than today, where I have to be very precise with my camera now).
I think all around that this game mode has still a long way to become really friendly to anyone :[
More with smaller screen for those who are playing with a laptop.
Anyway, Thank you all for your feedbacks as I know now how to work around my camera problem and continue my town *\o/*
I'm only able to play in Dx9, so my old .sav models are not working with the new update! :(
If you are in DX9 have you encountered this problem?
Maybe I can test your .sav files in DX11. I can DL those from your site and tell you (and if it works I could maybe create a .lxfml file from them but no promise !)
Rock1.sav
Rock2.sav
Rock4.sav
Rock5.sav
Rock6.sav
pedr1.sav
once I start making them from the new update, the problem will be gone at least for the new .savs - I have asked the Devs today to consider making the DX9 version export .lxfml if it isn't a big of a pain to them! (for the sake of those who don't have a DX11)
I can't understand my OS. It is Windows 7 ultimate and even though it states it has DX11 it does not make use of it and my Hardaware acceleration tab is greyed out! My ♥♥♥♥♥ integrated Graphics card is a radeon 3000 and is updated! :(
I feel this game will be seriously short lived if they don't look at how other 'building' games work and stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
Dont place props they ruin everything!^^ You can destroy it with a pickaxe, which will destroy part of your building as well and the couch, or any other prop, will most likely come back after reloading the world...
Only thing that worked for me was destroying it with a construction vehicle, its fun using one of these in a building -.-
