Can someone tell me the trick to building?
First of all, just want to say I love this game. I've never liked the other LEGO Games, they weren't my cup of tea (LEGO Game with no building, huh?). I feel like they finally got it right, and this game is 10x better and more complete than most early access games. I love how you can just go around exploring and collecting, there will be quests down the road to add a "focus" besides building, and of course, building.

However, I don't know if it's just me (It can't be just me), but the building feels completely broken. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the block placement. I thought maybe Ctrl or Space would raise the block, or the mouse wheel. That didn't seem to do it. I tried just making a flat platform and it was all over the place. I know this game isn't Minecraft, and LEGO has been a much bigger part of my life than Minecraft, so don't think I'm in any way saying MC is better, but it really feels like MC got the building right. Maybe if I had a controller it would be easier, but the building is really hard. I can't even imagine trying to build with individual blocks. Is this something they are planning to fix down the road, or is there some trick to it?

Just a general PS question/s... are they planning to release packs down the road (obviously for a price) like they have at the stores? Maybe a DC or Marvel pack, and if so will they have quests with them too? The other question, besides getting to play the game early, and getting it for what I imagine has to be at least half the price of the full release cost, are there going to be any EA exclusive bonuses? Or bonuses in general besides the ones I mentioned?

Sorry for the long post, didn't want people to think I was hating on the game, I'm not.

Going to go back to collecting and trying to figure out how the hell to build!

EDIT: Ah.. another PS.. the game runs pretty good on highest settings, but sometimes it says the game is "Struggling". My temperatures are all fine for CPU, GPU, etc. So aside from an annoying inconvenience, is this anything I need to worry about?

The trick to building is to make models or segments of models in LEGO Digital Designer, save them as .lxfml models, then import them into LEGO Worlds. At least, that's what I do, and it works great for me.

I appreciate the advice but that sounds like it would take away most of the fun of the game.

I have sucessfully built a small village brick by brick in one of my worlds. Learning controls and shortcuts has helped. The controls certainly are not intuitive at this time. It will be interesting to see what (if any) control modifications are added with tomorrow's update.

There are ample instructions provided for how to navigate the brick by brick building and perhaps you have closed them? The control directions change based on which menu you have open and/or what you are doing/driving/riding.

It does take away most of the fun of the game... and puts it somewhere else! :D

They never popped up for me. Just the character, mount, and vehicle controls.

@Alcom Test, I like exploring and finding things in addition to building. It would be annoying to have to switch every time. I'll just wait until they fix it I guess. So far only brick by brick building makes any sense.

It takes practice to get the building controls down. 1. Camera movement is key. 2. Holding Shift is great for quick stacking or placing. 3. Pay attention to the axis above the brick, that shows where the next brick can go, or will go if you're holding shift.

Look at the bottom right of the screen. There is a help box that you can click on and it will show you the controls for whatever it is you are doing. :happychappy:

Bricks are placed on the surface that your mouse points to. If you want to build a platform by placing bricks side by side it's easiest to angle your camera so you are looking at the platform directly from the side.

You could use some time building stuff. You can save buildings or export/import them, so it's no biggie if you want to change it later on. The main thing is getting used to using the overlap and no axis thingy.

Start simple and have a plan!

If you only use core bricks building is easy and, for me, quicker than MC, which has actual only one brick size. After you get yourself comfortable with it you can try something more complex.

Only problem and disadvantage compared to MC is that you cant go inside or under your construction and edit things, therefore you need a plan ;)

So I hope there will be a first person building mode later, or the option to hide blocks, or both :)

Great post altogether guys! (I use LDD, but would love to just use the game for building) so I also hope for it being the prefered choice later on ;)

Oh I know. That specific one either didn't pop up, or I completely missed it. The only one that's there now is the one about vehicle controls.

As for the building tips, I have tried doing it slowly. The thing is that if I want to put one (let's say large brick, I've been trying to lay a flat ground to start with.. which seems impossible) next to another and have them be level to each other I do not know how to do that.

So to clarify, I guess the thing I have the most trouble with is making things equally leveled. As in, let's say I put an 8x8 block down, and then I want to put one that is directly next to it, I do not know how to do that.

Does the ground need to be completely flat for that to work?

I never used LDD, and I have more than 50 hours of gameplay building only.

First I always use the flatten tool to make flat place to build. Often I just drawn the shap of the base of my building with flat bricks then I build over it.

I didn't try building with the new patch yet. But before, I used the vampire transformed as a bat to avoid most of camera problems. You can easily place thing inside a closed building with this trick.

When my build is finished I save it with the export tool. On the export screen a deslect every bricks that are from the land. As I started on a flat land I have few of them and with the flat bricks I placed at the base it's pretty easy to select only the building without the landscape.

Also, I often use a "trash" world for building. So I can destruct any mountain or rock, flatten the land and build. Once my build is saved in the game I try to find a new place on a new world to place my build with props and all without destroying the natural feeling of the land.

So far it worked very fine.

Oh and be sure to use ctrl to lvl down a brick (or a prop) and space to lvl up. It helps a lot to p lace thing correctly (even though props are still tricky).

Appreciate the advice/ I will give that a try next time I go on. I just hate how loud it makes my fans get, even though the temperatures are fine.
