"AppData\Roaming\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGOWorlds\SAVEDGAMES\CONTENT" if that folder is empty your worlds are prob gone forever :/
Of course in an ideal world this should not be necessary, but if you invest some effort in the game that small extra step is absolutely worth it even if you never end up needing it because it gives you peace of mind.
I still have no idea how the game can be brought to purging a save directory (if that's what actually took place) without manually overwriting save slots with new games. I've poked at files and reset stuff countless of times but never witnessed that particular behaviour.
As I changed from VISTA to Win7 (due to Steam), I made a complete backup with everything in LW. Now I deleted The cpl. SAVEGAME - Folder in the AppData patch and copied this on into the folder. TATA - not everything is lost for me - the world started "new" app. one year ago. One year lost - but - not everything... Now - nothing time to loose, we have to (re)build a city!
