My thoughts on Lego Worlds and how can it be improved
Out of curiousity I've checked ratings on Lego Worlds and I've noticed that currently it has "Mixed" (55%) rating. I've looked then on reviews, I was looking on negative reviews because, I think, they usualy say what's wrong with this game. From what I've read, most players mentions bad controls, crashes and bugs, performance issues, and Early Access content being removed, changed or unavailable in full release.

I personally gave this game a thumbs up, even when I've mentioned that this game isn't really perfect and the fact that this is just another Lego Star Wars reskin. But that's not the case. My point is to try tell what kind of problems there are and suggest TT how they can fix these issues.

Let's talk about the problems first:

  1. The controls:
This game was basically made for consoles in mind. There's no way to change input for keyboard and mouse users but for players who use controllers (Like me) shouldn't have much problems with playing. But keyboard and mouse users should have an option to put their own settings and maybe even have shortcuts for certain tools and etc. I used to play on keyboard and mouse back in EA version and it was kinda uncomfortable to me but I was able to build stuff. And even back in EA there were no settings for keyboard input or anything like that. If you are making games for PC, think about those players who doesn't use controllers.

  2. Technical issues:
Some players said the game crashes on various occasions, or that loading gets stuck at some %. I didn't had any bigger problems except when it froze my computer and I had to reset it. When it comes to game's performance or technical problems I would blame operating systems and PC's resources. My game is running fine on around 60fps on low settings (I disable unnecessary visual effects), but still I get some drops when I walk around the world. This is because this game is generating a lot of bricks that build the world, even these bricks that are not visible.

There are also some minor, but sometimes annoying bugs, especially when it comes to doors and windows where sometimes I can't put them where I want (even if there's enough space for them), or when I want to select a color for a brick and it gives me a window I've used minute ago. Or in adventure mode npcs sometimes forget to give you a reward and the camer akwardly points at them and you can't do anything about it until you get closer to them or when they find a way to get closer to you.

  3. Missing Early Access content:
Back then you could unlock anyone and anything with a push of a button (and discovery tool deployed), but now you have to do quests and complete some hidden tasks to get a rare one by either making a quest for them or beating the crap out of them with a katana. And what's worse, you can't unlock some characters you could obtain in Early Access, especially Female Robber or Female Diver. Also I don't really mind having limited world sizes, but the unlimited world should be left as an option or as a reward for some gold bricks. And not to mention that we now have Ninjago movie characters that cannot be unlocked in adventure mode at all (Unless you edit your save file). I'll be honest, the TT hat is a kinda weak EA reward, might as well it could say „I played Lego Worlds in early access, and all I got was this lousy hat”. Because this is what most players (including me) felt when got their rewards. Also there are no „stock”pieces (the ones used by townfolks) for playable characters.

  4. And maybe one from me:conwayshrug: – Lack of activity variety:
Well let's be honest here, you have adventure mode where you can do quests which are mostly the same deal (bring some objects, animals and props, beat up invaders, make a photo of something, build this, terraform that, paint this, bring someone to water), and sandbox mode which you can build stuff and nothing else. Everyone will beg for more. Even I get bored sometimes. When it comes to Sandbox mode, the only limitation is the creativity(for adventure mode maybe not that much).

I think there are more issues with this game but I did my best to explain these known problems. Like I said before, I like this game, even if its not perfect and I don't want this game to die. So here's what I can suggest:

  1. Add customizable controls for both keyboard/mouse and controller users,
  2. Make the game render only these pieces that are visible(like in Minecraft),
  3. Fix all the bugs and glitches,
  4. Bring back old content and make some unlockable,
  5. Add endless world type,
  6. More options for world customization like water level, world's height, # of generated objects, npcs and more,
  7. Add vehicle and prop editors,
  8. Add more stock parts for playable characters,
  9. Add more varied quests like, I dunno, racing, mini-games, boss fights,
  10. and foremost, add animal suit characters.

I hope this will get TTs attention. If you want to suggest something, please go ahead. This is meant to spark a discussion on how can this game be saved from certain doom.

One feature that would be nice is compatibility with Lego Dimensions figures and vehicles...

Maybe include some codes on future Dimensions sets(if there are any).

I assume you mean occlusion culling? the terrain system has always made use of it, it would be insane if it were to draw every cell given how data heavy chunks can be compared to the ones in Minecraft. One difference that may give you this impression is that LEGO Worlds fills areas with 1x1 plates when the camera clips through terrain to prevent you from seeing an emptry void below the surface which would break the illusion of a world made out of solid bricks, but those are obviously not rendered when the camera is unobstructed and they cant be a significant burden on performance because only one layer is rendered.

To be honest, I didn't really know what's called. Thanks for letting me know tho.

I agree on everything here.

Also they need to make all the colors unlocked. for some reason many of the colors on the pre made set are not possible to use by any other means then by placing the set down.

Also the road bricks need to fixed its such a pain to place road without it ruining the already existing road or it going one 1/3 brick level down even tought the ground is all flat or it glitching all the cars in the town and making them crash into each other and flying around when you make the road longer.
They need to Add a auto road placer because of all of this, that connects with the already existing road.

Also they need to make it so npc don't repeat the quests we have already don for them and i mean the same npc over and over again.
