As far as off my head goes, it was easier to get the trader to have gold bricks after you had an inventory full of everything like the weapons, instruments etc...because it wouldn't show you any of the things you already had in her inventory for sale. Like, if you had the Egyptian Sword in your inventory you'd never see the Egyptian Sword for sale, so the game would roll for another item to fill the slot, on to the next item and the next until it lands on one that you don't already have.
I know you play without carrying any extra of the 1 off items so you can get the quests to work, so you'll have a particularly low chance of seeing a gold brick since her inventory will show items for sale that you don't have more often than the random roll for the gold brick.
Wish I could be of more help, surprised you're still at this you're like a dog with a bone! (I'd be playing too if the game would even load and I could just be sure my save wasn't going to get fried...until then just not going to bother, my frustration tolerance isn't that high, and it's pretty high, it's just not...that high.)
You know what, I'll reinstall the game and extract the .dat again to check. I hate to think that TT games is leaving you alone in the dark with your quest to get 200 gold bricks man. I'll give you any info I find, takes awhile to do though. I'll be back. She had a file which clearly indicated chances of things for sale and of course access to all the quests from every NPC and which ones give gold bricks and stuff, which may be helpful to you. I can't give you the file though, and I know you're not asking, but I can at least check it if you have questions you can't seem to iron out yourself.
The sooner you're done with this the sooner you can get on with your life, there's a ton of great games out right now, hate to see you stuck with this one for so long in the dark.
Thanks! Now that I've tracked totals I can state that I got 40 gold bricks from treasure chests, 10 from Troublemakers and then both stopped. So far I have 5 from the trader now, but I think she should sell at least 10.
Edited the above, I'll reinstall the game and extract the database again for you, I can do that in the background it's no skin off my back, and will be good to have some concrete numbers to work from.
Don't waste time you don't have. I was just curious. On this 2nd file I'm up to 189 gold bricks and have been playing with a full inventory so that seemingly isn't helping me much yet, but maybe it is all just random luck. I've played only about 25 hours on this file but I have checked the seller every time she pops in.
Found that file again that dictates the traders inventory for sale, and looked at everything until it made sense. Ok, so she has the same chance to sell a gold brick as she does to sell most of the weapons. They're weighted at 0.1 for almost the entire collection, such as bow, compound bow, crystal bow etc...all weighted at 0.1 for a chance to show up in her inventory at any given night, to fill one of the six slots available. For comparison, the blunderbuss, monster gun etc... is weighted at 0.5.
The magic potions are at 0.1, the musical instruments and colored torches at 0.3, the dungeon chest items at 0.0 (megazooka, paint bow etc...) crystals are at 0.3 , food items except the golden apple at 0.3, tools at .3 (shovel, axe etc...)
It's all clearly indicated what she can and can't sell and what has a higher vs a lower chance to show up in any given slot.
It's clear by this file she a 0.1 chance to sell a gold brick to the player at any given night. You can increase your odds by having a full inventory of all the one off items as she won't roll for those if it returns that you already have that item.
Now those chances aren't percentile based, they're weights from the look of it. Painted weights that weigh a given item's chance to appear over another with a "heavier" or "lighter" weight attached to it. Simply put, a food item such as a baguette with a weight of 0.3 Is more likely to appear than a gold brick with a weight of 0.1.
There is nothing indicating there is a limit or check against the players inventory and amount of acquired bricks already or anything that I can see. That does not however guarantee that there isn't, as there is much behind the scenes stuff we can't see. We can extract what we can extract but the proprietary files created by the licensed tech they use to make the game aren't visible unless you own yourself a copy of that engine/compiler stuff.
Anything in .xml or .txt is clearly visible though and much of this is.
So, basically my thoughts are that she doesn't have a limit to how many she can theoretically sell you, but it's a pretty low weighted chance she'll sell you a gold brick. The only way to increase your odds of getting one is to keep one of each of the one off items in your inventory and to check her every night, other than that you are just rolling dice with a low weighted chance against other items with a higher weighted chance of appearing.
If you have any hard to answer specific questions about the gold bricks from any given character/quest please ask I'll look it up, it's clearly indicated which characters can give which gold bricks for which quests, that's easy to see. There's just a ton of characters. Gotta run will check back this evening good luck.
Thanks for the information. I am pretty much 100% certain that at a certain point she stops selling them completely. On my other file I saw her and sold crystals (farming studs) hundreds of times after getting the last brick and she never sold any more. It's the same way treasure chests and troublemakers just stop carrying them at a certain point. I'm hoping to get at least 10 from her so it's a round number.
That's really odd. Any idea about how many you may have purchased so far?
From my experience your save game is about to bite the dust. I'd worry about backing it up pronto. I remember my ship acting weird like that, then not too long after I'd approach my ship and when I tried to activate it the game just crashed and locked up on me.
Never did get that particular save file to work again. I lost that save game entirely, had to roll back two entire days to one before I started having the problem you are having right now, which is what started it all.
Then that save eventually got corrupted when the game tried to autosave at the same moment it was hanging up running out of Vram trying to load in distant draw distances. So the game hung and froze, while it was in the process of saving, thereby destroying that save. At that point I said to hell with this I'm not starting over again, I'll check back in a week and see if they've updated etc...
How difficult is it to see which quests appear in which biomes? There are a few biomes that offer so little in terms of quest it just feels wrong.
I asked one of the guys at TT and they said they believe she sells 10 total so I just need 1 more from her.
Darkstar, I did have one question, but I don't know if you'd be able to answer. Basically every time a green dot quest giver has multiple parts to their quest the last part of the quest will yield a gold brick. However, there is a series of quests for the Troll Kill inside a stadium where he wants you to build something, then he wants you to give him 10 Troll Warriors and lastly he wants a Troll Throne. That quest did not give me a gold brick, which I found odd. He gave me a drumstick and some studs. Every other questgiver that has multi-step quests like that (every one I can recall) has given me a gold brick.
Oh good to know about the upper limit on the trader, I couldn't find anything that indicated when I went looking. Must be in the code somewhere there though. Same as I can't see how many bricks the troublemaker can give out, only what chance he has of having one, although we all know he stops giving them after awhile same as chests. I couldn't find what dictates those factors, but I think you found it out already anyway on your own through play.
As far as the files it's easy to check. Keeping the loose files on my desktop so I can look through them, and I check here every day waiting for news on an update. I'm not big on playing this game but I'm huge on building in it and can't wait till it's stable.
I'm checking the Troll King right now let's see, yup that quest has a 50% chance to reward a turkey drumstick lol. 30% for a golden apple, 10% for a sword.
He does not offer any gold bricks in any of his quests. Interestingly enough, he has a commented out quest I never noticed before regarding "brawling warriors". The entire quest is written, but it's all commented out. It rewards "MedievalHouse3" lxmfl as the reward. Maybe that's one of the houses with the missing windows/doors that nobody can get legit without the code. Maybe there are others like that. Dunno, hard to check since I'm too lazy to open lxmfl and see if it's just one of the generic medieval houses from the castle city, or if it's unique. Just a hunch.
I mean, I could settle all this for you once in for all and list every gold brick in the game from quest givers. I just have to sit down and do it and it will be a long list. How about I start that since you must be sick of this crash fest by now, and it doesn't look the update will fix all the problems because lets face, there's just too many on all platforms and you just know it's not going to get all the problems sorted out because even keeping track of them all is a major task!
I did a little bug hunting in the bug report thread about those quests that have the green beam, but no quest giver and found out it's like 99% chance that it's missing a resource when that happens. There's a lot of empty quests like that, and when I researched one area in one biome to try and track down the answer I found out that indeed the game calls upon a prop that doesn't exist in a complete form in the resources. In this case it was calling on one of the 4 igloo props that can spawn, so you can paint it for an arctic explorer, but the actual igloo referenced in the quest, TundraIgloo_1, doesn't exist. 2, 3 and 4 do, and the .sav structure for 1 does, but the actual lxmfl isn't there. So the game bugs out and thinks the quest should be there, and shows the green beam...but the quest giver doesn't spawn because he's linked to the placement of whatever prop he wants you to paint, or build for him. This is the first empty quest I looked at, and saw the problem right away, well after double checking. I missed it the first time ;)
The rest of the empty quests are probably like that, once I saw a screenshot of an area where the empty quest appeared, I could then look at the terraforming files and find out which quests cause the ground to be flattened in a small radius like that in a specific biome with no other props/features present, of which there were only two types, generic build quests and generic paint quests. I tracked down the resources called on by the game for each possible npc in that biome that gives quests out of the ...5 possible quests that could happen there, and sure enough I found a missing resource. So whenever the game is trying to spawn a quest where an Arctic Explorer, in the Peaks biome, wants you to pain a specific igloo for him, it's going to be broken like that. Everything else about the quest is working and scripted properly, it's just that didn't include the "TundraIgloo_1" lxmfl prop file and only it's .sav file. Tundra_Igloo2 through 4 exist in complete form. But it doesn't want those, it wants 1, and 1 isn't there! So the whole quest, including quest giver, break, in essence and fail to display/spawn.
I could probably track down the rest of these, but honestly, it's going to be the same story and there's nothing we can do about it so it's kind of pointless. Once I figured out what was going wrong, it's not like we can fix it, but I know why it's happening now. They need to patch this game.
So anyway, about the quests. What I can do is make another post after this one here since it's long already, and I'll go through and start on a list of all the gold bricks in the game available from quest givers that you can check against. It's going to be a long list though so I won't have the patience to finish it in one sitting and will update it when I get time, but it will be complete, soon. (going to start Fire Emblem Awakening on 3ds tonight, so I may dissappear for awhile heard that game was really good.) But I'll get to completing the list as I find time, over coffee, that sort of thing and it will be complete.
And I'll give you a run down of the biome quests too it's very easy to see exactly what spawns, including quest colonies, and where, per biome.
Again, you don't have to do that. I can compile a list of green dot quests that give Gold Bricks from every biome for you and then also compile a list of all of the wandering quests (protection quests, picture quests, etc). I've been meaning to make a full list anyway so I'll work on that tomorrow.
On my 2nd file I am up to 198 gold bricks and have what SHOULD be all of them from the Trader (10), Troublemaker (10) and Treasure Chests (40).
As for quests that are green dots with no one there. I asked Chris Rose about them and he said some of those quests were pulled "for now" as they are still working on getting them to work best I believe. However, he did say that 200 are still possible.
My biggest concern would be if someone OTHER THAN the Forestman wanted a picture of a Dragon Youngling of a particular color. I doubt that is the case, but it is possible. The Wacky Witch never asked for her picture of the Candy Dragon until we unlocked the other Dragons so there is a chance of that.
Yeti= 2 gold bricks. Buildshelter quest in the Tundra biome and Stuck quest (lower terrain) in the Tundra biome.
Warlock= 1 gold brick. Herd Red Dragon quest in Volcanic and Woodland biomes. (herd quests mean place a creature there etc...)
Wacky Witch = 4 gold bricks. Stuck quest, flatten terrain in spooky woods biome. Photo of a purple dragon in Autumn biome, Candy land and Spooky woods biomes. Stuck pig (flatten terrain) in Candy land biome. Decorating something with gravestones in the Autumn biome. (falling forest) which is locked behind a defend from halloween tricksters quest, the last quest in that chain.
Volcano Explorer, Male = 1 gold bricks. Paint lava quest in Volcanic biome.
Volcano Explorer, Female = 2 gold bricks. Stuck quest in volcanic biome (volcano explorer M is stuck). Defend from Troll Warrior quest in Volcanic biome.
Viking Woman = 1 gold bricks. Brawl Giant Troll, in medieval town in any of the biomes that spawns in, chain quest with prerequisites (I haven't run into this quest at all in my playthrough, but it's not commented out. Looks legit although some of the brawl quests look like they aren't implemented yet like the Troll King one etc...)
Volanic Explorer Christina Hydron= 2 gold bricks. Stuck quest (volcanic explorer F) in volcanic biome. Another stuck quest in volcanic biome, doesn't reference who is stuck, maybe it's her who is stuck.
Swamp Police Male= 3 gold bricks. Brawl crooks in swamp biome. Pursue robbers in Swamp biome. Stuck quest in swamp biome, doesn't specify who is stuck, perhaps he is. Brawl quests might actually mean protect/defend quests, perhaps. And pursuit and vehicle pursuit quests, there are scores of them but none I've encountered and I had a couple hundred hours in this and 1300+ discoveries on my own before I lost my save. However, the brawl quests may be another name for the defend quests, depending on some unknown variable. You'll have to check your notes.
Swamp Police Female = 3 gold bricks. Brawl robbers in swamp biome, 2 robbers. Pursue Robbers in swamp biome. Build police station in swamp biome. Thats the one with the impossible to find barred windows iirc that got added with the unlock code only.
Swamp Crook Male = 1 gold bricks. Herd creature, gators and green frogs in swamp biome.
Swamp Crook Female = 1 gold bricks. Build "stash" (mesadynamitecrate) quest in swamp biome.
Surfer girl = 2 gold bricks. Lead to water quest in rainforest biome. Pursuit shark in rainforest biome. Is she getting pursued? Does she pursue, can't say.
Squarefoot = 2 gold bricks. Pursue Female Scientists in Taiga biome (watchful woods) Something with a white squirrel and a thorny bush prop in the Taiga biome. Has a commented out quest for a photo of a white squirrel, but doesn't reward golden apple, just interesting though.
Spooky Girl = 1 gold bricks. Build something in spooky woods biome. She has a ton of quests, but only one gold brick.
Spider Lady= 1 gold bricks. Brawl skeletons in spooky woods biome.
Skater Girl= 3 gold bricks. Defend (labelled defend not brawl) from zombie cheerleader in scrapyard biome. Photo with vampire in scrap biome. Paint wall in scrap biome.
Sheriff= 2 gold bricks. Photo with outlaw in frontier biome. Sherrif sign prop quest in frontier biome.
Scientist= 3 gold bricks. Photo with squarefoot in Tundra, rainforest, swamp, mushroom, and snowforest biomes. Herd white rats in those same biomes. Place computer in swamp biome.
Scarecrow= 1 gold bricks. Paint wall in the farm biome.
Samurai= 1 gold bricks. Place samurai gate prop in cherry blossom biome.
Rocker Girl= 2 gold bricks. Fetch guitar in spooky woods biome. Place dancemat prop in spooky woods biome.
Research Pal (i think the researcher chick in the playful prarie and volcanic biome) = 3 gold bricks. Something about a skeleton lxfm place, probably those abandoned skeletons you can discover or something in savanna biome (playful prairie). Stuck christina hydron quest in volcanic biome. Paint crates quest in volcanic biome.
Queen = 2 gold bricks. build something in desert dunes and woodland biome. Herd brown owl and crow in woodland biome. I don't know how she got to the desert dunes...but it says she has this quest there, but she's not listed as spawnable in that biome. Weird. Egyptian queen has her own file. This one here is the medieval queen.
Prospector= 2 gold bricks. Cowboy stuck quest in frontier. Paint goldmine quest frontier biome.
Police Male = 2 gold bricks. Brawl robbers in the town/city. Pursue robbers in the town/city.
Police Female = 2 gold bricks. Brawl robbers in town/city. Pursue robbers in town/city.
Pirate Princess = 1 gold bricks. Starter world gold brick.
Pirate Male = 3 gold bricks. Stuck quest pirate female, doesn't specify where, looks like rainforest. Place Pirate throne prop , starter world. brawl crocodiles in rainforest it looks like, also calls for pirate theme biome. There is clearly a pirate theme biome, but a few of these biomes aren't in game yet, probably for DLC but worth looking for those quests in rainforest, they're blended together in both.
Pirate Female= 8 gold bricks! Herd chickens and pigs, starter world. Defend zombie pirates, pirate theme biome. Build Pirate Isles "booty", pirate theme biome. Paint quest in pirate Isles. Place crows nest in pirate isles biome. Stuck monkey quest in pirate isles biome. Herd crabs quest in pirate biome. Brawl skeletons in...what may be forest biome? Worded uniquely to all other files. I don't think we can access pirate isles or pirate world or pirate theme biomes yet, probably DLC so you can't get a few of these most likely, unless it happens in rainforest too, but it doesn't say it does. I don't think we can get all her bold bricks, she has too many and I don't think we can access a pirate theme biome yet. Only the starter world pirate theme. There's a few biomes that we don't have access to yet, I won't spoil them. Maybe this was in the game at some point and they just rolled it into the Rainforest biome? I really wish I could get in game and check but won't even start anymore, think it damaged my hard drive after hard locking so many times, I scanned and had a bad sector. Ouch. Now it won't load after reinstalling it lol. I want this on my PS4 anyway, just waiting till it gets stabilized to buy it. Also may be my fault as my overclock on my gpu was pretty high and probably unstable, mix that with a game prone to crashing= gonna have a bad time.
Paleontologist= gold bricks. Brawl mummies in savanna and prehistoric biome. Again another biome that didn't make the cut, probably rolled into rainforest. Check playful prairie for that one. Photo with totem quest in rainforest biome. Place dino skull prop, volcanic biome.
Paintball Player= 1 gold bricks. Paint quest in scrap biome.
Outlaw= 2 gold bricks. Stuck quest outlaw breakout in Frontier biome. Defend from Sheriff quest in Frontier biome.
Major Steele= 2 gold bricks. Photo with ghost quest in spooky woods. Defend from zombies in spooky woods.

Jewel thief = 1 gold bricks. Place prop crates in scrap biome.
Intergalactic Girl = 1 gold bricks. Place prop quest (qlxfml_hq) in Crystal biome.
Heroic Knight = 1 gold bricks. (prob. not working) Place prop bonfire quest in medieval town biome. Commented by devs with "still needs work" type of comments, perhaps none of these medieval towns quests work, dunno.
Girl = 1 gold bricks. Build lollipop in candy land biome.
Gingerbreadman = 3 gold bricks. Brawl werewolf in candy land biome. Paint Lolly quest in candy land biome. Defend pig quest in candy land biome.
Ghost = 2 gold bricks. Build "haunt" in spooky woods biome. Place spooky lantern prop in spooky woods biome.
Forestman = 3 gold bricks. Herd butterflies quest in forest biome. Photo with baby green dragon in forest biome. Place wishing well prop in forest biome.
Forest Maiden = 3 gold bricks. Paint quest in forest biome. Brawl zombie cheerleader in forest biome. Herd butterflies in forest biome.
Fisherman = 3 gold bricks. Shark pursuit quest in canyon, swamp and mushroom biomes. (guess that answers that about pursuit quests, the questgiver is the one being pursued, not pursuing.) Lead to water quest in canyon, swamp and mushroom biomes. Photo with swamp creature in canyon, swamp and mushroom biomes.
Farmer Male = 3 gold bricks. Brawl zombies in the farm biome. Herd sheep in the farm biomes. Place mushroom "garden" quest in farm? biome. Doesn't specify biome on that one.
Farmer Female = 3 gold bricks. Herding chickens in farm biome. Brawl zombies in farm biome. Place water tower prop in farm biome.

Cowboy = 4 gold bricks. Defend from bandits in the the frontier biome. Herd bull and cows in the frontier biome. Brown cow creature quest (herding? he has two of these, this one with no bull.) in frontier biome. Place gunrack prop in frontier biome.
Construction Worker Male = 1 gold bricks. Paint bright blue house in starter world biome.
Construction Worker Female = 1 gold bricks. Paint container quest in non mentioned biome. Commented with "potentially removed from game" also associated with biker additional quest chain. So I'm not sure if you can get this one if it's even in game. But the quest itself is not commented out, just the little comment about it is there though.
Constable = 3 gold bricks. Brawl 2 robbers in town/city biome. Brawl 4 robbers in town/city biome. Brawl outlaws in town/city biome.
Climber = 4 gold bricks. Place rock wall in peaks biome. Built hut in tundra biome. Stuck arctic explorer in tundra biome. Photo with yeti in peaks biome.
Chemist = 2 gold bricks. Place chemlab in mushroom biome. Defend from rock creatures in crystal and mushroom biome.

Builder, Sweaty = 1 gold bricks. Photo with robot in scrap biome.
Builder "D" (this may be the female one?) = 4 gold bricks. Build house quest in starter world. Paint house quest in starter world. Place Pirate clock tower in starter world. Paint "container" house in unspecified biome, maybe generic paint quest.
Builder, Scar = 1 gold bricks. Paint "paintover" quest in scrap biome.
Builder, Goggles = 2 gold bricks. Starter world build quest "export house". Paint pool quest in scrap biome.
Builder, Beard = 1 gold bricks. Paint wood quest in scrap biome.
Boy = 1 gold bricks. Stuck girl quest in candy land and frontier biomes.
Biker = 3 gold bricks. Photo with motorbike in canyon and scrap biomes. Photo with tabby cat in canyon biome. Paint cars in scrap biome.
Arctic Explorer = 1 gold bricks. Photo with snowman in Wintertheme biome (not tundra).
Anubis Guard = 1 gold bricks. Paint "sand" quest in desert dunes biome.
Ann Lee = 2 gold bricks. Photo with werewolf quest in spooky woods biome. Defend from skeletons in spooky woods.
And that's all I've got. All that's there :)
Looks like that forestman might be the blocker here needing that green dragonling photo after all.
