I tried several times to do a roof, but it just doesn't register. are certain bricks needed? or are the quests bugged?
So yes, the quests do seem to be bugged. I tried 5 or so quests and just can't do them.
Maybe I have to use specific bricks?

Basically all I've been doing for these quests is literally boxing in the NPC. worked everytime.
grab your 4x2's and just brick around the NPC itself, slam a roof on the top (flat pieces so there are no gaps) - if it demands more bricks just spam bricks inside the green box. Profit.
Toward the end I noticed that all I actually had to do was complete the brick number part and then talk to the person who gave you the quest a couple of times, then ask to quit the quest
The person then asks you if you're done and gives you the prize anyway.
pffffffffffft
i've never had any real issues with the quest when doing them manually, for me all of them are working fine, as long as you
1] Stay inside the big green box, theres a important note here, visual green box doesnt seem to perfectly align with the build box, if you see the green box appear as your placing a brick, your appearantlly placing it outside of the green box (even if visually, you are not)
2] Dont build inside the ghost character/small green box/house.
3] Dont leave holes in the walls (place actual windows/doors instead)
Also i can confirm what Tri says to be working, you can just spam a load of bricks (personally i use the 1x1 till i hit brick count) cover all 4 sides and top and itll be fine, even if it looks like a random lump of bricks/totally isnt a house/the character cant even enter/exit.
