They indicate that there is a chest there, probably burried underground. Usually there'll be a chest icon on your minimap once you get close enough to it. Just stand directly over it and start digging: you should hear a faint tinkling noise when the chest is getting close.

Use the remove option on your terrain tool. If you zoom in and look down while doing so, you can often times vaguely see how far down the chest is. Make sure to widen your digging area as much as possible.

that's what i did .. stand on top of it and remove the terrain saw my character fell down deep but never got the chest ...

Did you make the tool as big as possible?

I usually just stand exactly where the beam is, then use the pneumatic drill and go straight down until I find the chest.

I don't think people realise there are 2 types of yellow beams. the ones with chests are more orange then yellow, but there is a actual yellow, yellow beam. I so far only encountered one of these and I gouged out the entire area with a megazooka and found nothing at all, so I too am trying to find out what they are

yeah I came across one that didn't have a chest at the bottom, unless its some kind of bug, its certainly nothing to do with legendary bricks, so pretty puzzling, I just ignored it and did others. Most yellow beams seem to lead to chests. just that one that didn't have a chest, even though I used the landscape tool to remove a large chunk at the bottom.

I just found a yellow beam, it had a gold brick over it on the minimap, and couldnt find anything ,then someone spawned with a quest and they gave me a gold brick for it, so im guessing it just means a quest giver has bugged out

The color-guide for the beams is:

White = spaceship
Light-Blue (at night) = hot-air balloon merchant
Dark Blue = town
Green = quest
Pink = quest that you've already advanced
Red = dungeon
Gold = treasure (these are often insanely deep underground. Sometimes you may even fall into a cave / cavern that appears empty, but if you see nothing, KEEP DIGGING.)

it's a pity that the game doesn't tell you that. also icons when in the main map, I know the first one is a dungeon, there is also how many gold bricks you got on the world, how many troublemakers. yet some of the icons I have no clue too.

I got this as well, thought it was a treasure chest, but when I got there, there was only a quest to build a house for a witch to get a golden brick.

Yellow beams mark dragon clouds, and possibly other rare places. Gold/orange beams are for treasure.

Try finding Egypt or Jungle once's (Biomes) . They have many chest near the surface.

Lol just dig to the bottom of the map with a terrain tool and then use the flatten tool on the bedrock layer around a lot of yellow beams and profit. pro tip, dont even bother trying to use chests as gold brick sources at more than 80

i wish there is youtube video or something showing how this done ...
