So how do I discover things underwater?

I can't use the Discovery Tool underwater, and it seems I'm not able to open any of the big chests in the water either.

Also, while I'm at it. How do I delete or even edit custom characters and buildings I've created? I can't find any option to do so.

If you don't have any, you can go to the desert and find a scuba diver and lead him to the water. That's the answer I got yesterday, and it's how I got the diver.

Also, the swamp creature can walk under water, too.
