Adventure worlds can be played in sandbox mode
I had made a good sized town (even importing models and terrain I had made in my previous EA world), before sandbox mode came along...
and when I then tried SB mode (which was really the reason why I bought the game back in 2015), it would not allow me to modify my pre-existing world which I had made in the (imposed) adventure mode.
So what I did was, deleted all files inside the sandbox mode world folder, then copied/pasted all the files within my adventure mode world folder.
Boom!!! I landed in my previous made adv. mode world inside sandbox mode!
So this will be good for any of you who spent a good time already making stuff in your adventure mode world!

here are the specific steps:

1- see your sandbox world's coordinate number at the galaxy map
2- go to the folders located inside the CONTENT folder.
3- discover in which numbered folder is your sandbox mode world by:
4- going into each of the numbered folders and opening the world.tts file using a notepad
5- in the notepad you will find that matching world coordinate.
6- Back up both worlds to your desktop (as a safety precaution)
6- only then follow the importing instructions above! ;)

Happy creating/playing! :steamhappy:

Awesome!!!! I'm working on a pretty big project, and was wishing this was possible. Thank's for explaining this in detail! Good luck with your tropical town :)

Ok, I feel kind of dumb for asking now, but how do you differentiate between the sandbox mode world and adventure world in the game files? The guide I found for moving world files around is from 2015, not sure how different the filing stucture is now :)

I've updated the instructions above!

What in the world, you're doing it the hard way....

You can just view which files are being accessed when you are in a world, the game will read and write to .CNK files, just look at the file path to find the directory. There are specialized tools for this but there is one included with Windows too, Resource Monitor, the Disk section.

Kinda surprised this thread wasn't shut down yet, I helped you because as you said you would have created your world in Sandbox if it were available, but let's be clear, you're essentially circumventing the deliberate firewall between the two game modes, i.e. exploit territory.

Fortunately it doesn't break adventure mode just yet because the game now tracks the creation source of a prop.

Only to get rid of the green gnome spawning/running around every 10 sek in front of the camera during building is worth risking anything! :Pain:

Alternative steps no special tools needed:
Go to adventure world do something save.
Go to sandbox world do something save.
Exit game.
Backup (just for safety)
Go to files, sort folders by changed date, switch newest folder names.
Start game again.

Enjoy Building again.

A detailed guide was posted by ttcrose explaining how to do this:
