Sandbox doesn't unlock all playable characters?
As title says. The kids fired up the new Sandbox mode and loved seeing all the animals and AI characters and biomes they hadn't unlocked yet, but they got pretty frustrated about only haveing the white and pink astronauts. It's a bit odd to not have them unlocked when everything else is, right? And for that matter.... how do you unlocked them? You can't just spawn one and then do the regular capture thing.

Is this a bug?

Is there any way to have all characters unlocked without doing the quests?

I can't.

Each save file is either Sandbox or regular.

The kids already have a regular save file with lots of characters and about 50x gold bricks, but they still haven't unlocked the create your own custom world thing, dinosaurs, etc etc.

When they started a new save file to play Sandbox, they of course got everything else, but they didn't get the actual characters they can play.

So how can they now unlock them? When you put the discovery tool on AI characters it just says Remove or Copy. In regular if you can't capture a character due needing a quest- it tells you that. This leads me to believe it's impossible to be given a quest that will allow the characters to be captured. Playing a different save in adventure mode isn't going to help.

The only way to play as the characters is to play Adventure / regular mode on that save file, and unlock them there. That will, I assume, unlock them on the Sandbox mode. The Sandbox mode is only really for those who want to build things immediately instead of having to collect all the bricks.

One of us isn't getting the point. Maybe me, but deffinitely one of us.

When you start a new save, it asks if you want it to be Sandbox or Adventure, right? So I can't start a save on Adventure then go to Sandbox. Trying to do so will make two unrelated saves...right?

Ah, my bad, you *can* play Sandbox and Adventure on the same save. When you open the save the first set of options let's you select one or the other before you get to the world select screen.

While your world's from adventure mode won't show in sandbox, your characters and creatures you've unlocked in adventure mode should.

I would like to see the playable characters unlocked, my 4 year old struggles with some of the more complex quests. He also was very excited to see everything else unlocked, but one of his favorite things is mixing and matching character parts for himself.

Also, not quite on topic, but I don't think I saw that Dragons were unlocked?

I had to spend a lot of time playing alongs with my son originally, specifically for the reason of capturing all things and doing quests. My son also loves mixing and matching his own characters, so I made an effort to try to unlike as many of them as possible. I reckon I spent several tens of hours doing it.

I haven't seen them play with dragons either in the Sandbox, so it seems that is one of the things not unlocked. I don't even know why they didn't have a sandbox to begin with, but even still for *some reason* the dev's are still really reluctant and holding out. They said that rare items are still locked....why??? lol defeats the purpose of sandbox to still be locking stuff, right?

Anyways, that's how it goes so far. People need to make more threads requesting a *full* unlocked version, as the original threads about not having sandbox seem like why it was added later.

Mate, tens of hours? Really? You didn't just download someone else's fully unlocked save game then? If you decided not to do that then you must have been having fun unlocking, which is the point.

Well we played it the day it come out (he had been playing most days prior already), so no save file would have been available. He always liked roping me in to playing with him anyway, so at least when the new version came out I kind of had more purpose to do when playing along. It was good to rediscover old things to collect them to use later, but also good to see all the new stuff too. As I mentioned though, it was pretty much all me doing the capturing and quests, however I tried to get him to do some of it along the way too. He likes just sandboxing with his own imagination though. He does stuff like put down a bunch of saloon clocks in a row with cactus's opposite...and they are angry birds vs bad pigs or chess or what ever. Today he just added to a forest, made a bear cave with bears, made a series of clocks and mushrooms in decending sizes, and played with coral and crabs under the water.

At this stage after all that's been seen it's better to have all the stuff ready to just place down/play with rather than wandering to explore/capture/quest.

Actually just to add to that point; somehow we didn't even have the bear unlocked. It must have only been a day or two before the 1.1 update that we discovered that. He made a cave and tried to put a bear in but we didn't have it. That was frustrating, especially scrolling up and down on a big list but it not being there, so for sandbox to unlock things is where we want to be at with how the kids play.

The point according to who? The Devs?

The people that didn't realize the need for Creative Mode in the first place?

The people that had an open beta version that was nothing at all like the game that went live?

So they got the point that the majority wanted a creative mode. Great! Well done! But don't screw around with it. There's a vast sea of people that NEVER want to touch the Story Mode. And they just pissed them all off by playing games, and pushing their "point of view" on them.

Then don't play the game if you can't accept it for what it is. Boo hoo. Go cry some more.

Not that your comment was directed at me, but did you consider he might have been playing on a console? I like to keep my console legit and not risk virus and the like, so I don't download saves (if this is even possible for LW on consoles).
AndyCalling May 10, 2017 @ 3:09am
How is a save game going to have a virus in it, when it isn't executable code? I don't own a console, but I seem to remember people exchanged save games back in the PS1 days so I presume that's still possible? I also remember pretty much complete saves being available about a day or two after release. Seems easy enough to me to just use a save game, I still don't really understand the issue I suppose because for some reason people don't want to do that but I've no idea why not unless they want to play the collection game.
