Assassin's Creed II

Assassin's Creed II

Xbox One Controller Compatability?
How in the world do I get my xbox one controller to work?
I've tried everything from utilizing the steam controller configuration and using the AC2 format - to downloading that x360ce.ini file and putting it where all the game files are (at least where most of them are including the client). I have, however, realized that some of the game files are stored under Steam, and some are stored under Ubisoft...

Anyway, any and all help would be greatly appreciated as I'm just dying to relive my old AC2 days and actually enjoy it with my xbox one controller. Playing with mouse and keyboard is not at all enjoyable. Thank you!

Please note, there are some limits to what we can advise if you are using an unofficially supported controller with the game, so a workaround may be needed.

You need to download an emulator to work the controls. Just search on Google Assassin's creed 2 Xbox one controller fix. It should point you in the right direction. Something called x360, it emulates the Xbox 360 for the Xbox one. Just follow the instructions giving to you on whatever reddit post or other website.

That is what I did. However it still, somehow, manages not to integrate into the game. I've followed it to the tee. So I'm wondering if there is something else I'm missing... Maybe there's another file location I'm supposed to put them in? Do I need to clear some game setting files?

The closest I've come is downloading the x360ce.EXE file and running that program. But even with that, the triggers in the game don't work...

It's mind boggling that they couldn't just run some sort of patch to make all controllers work in the game.

Put it all into your games exe directory, not outside of it. Run the exe in admin and it should so what it's supposed to. Make sure your Xbox one controller is plugged in with USB to pc when doing this.

This DOES NOT HELP if you have an ORIGINAL xbox controller. The game DOES NOT RECOGNIZE TRIGGERS AS BUTTONS. It recognizes them as STICKS or AXIS. Because of this you CAN NOT MAP ACTIONS INTO TRIGGERS.
Why? the game won't let you map buttons to either sticks or mouse movement. The only thing you can map into the triggers are maybe camera controls or walking controls.

The game itself IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TRIGGERS as it recognizes them as axis, like a stick.

If you have a different kind of controller, like old Dual Shock 2 ones (which don't have triggers but buttons in place of L2/R2 or LT/RT) it will be possible. If not you will need to get vjoy drivers alognside X360CE emulator.

Once you have the emulator and the vjoy program installed configure your controller and select axis to button for the triggers and that will do.

I gave up halfway since right now I have covid. So fever and the feeling that a xenomorph is about to burst out of my head.

What issue are you experiencing? I would think Steam's built-in controller configuration would give you sufficient options as you can change the triggers from being axes (as mentioned in a later comment) to being essentially keystrokes or button presses, if that's your issue.

So I ended up getting the triggers to work by running the x360ce.exe emulator that is specific to all games, not the 32 bit one. I have no idea what or how, but I just run that as administrator then also run ACll as administrator and they work!

However the annoying thing now is that they don't show the controls as A X Y B LB RB LT RT etc. They show up as the inconspicuous symbols in the game. Granted I'm familiar with the controls, however it does become somewhat of an issue when I can't remember what button does what haha.

It's not going to show it as you say, I did this too and it stays the same, the emulator is just to make the controller work with the game. It doesn't change what the correct controls say.

I wish we could mod the icons to look like "Y, X, B, A," etc. A lot of other games do it (Bloodstained, Trials of Mana), I wish Ubi wasn't so stingy.

I'm using the xbox one controller on this game without any added software. Has been working all along, icons however won't change but who cares?

I do.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Hello everyone, thanks for sharing your workarounds and programs used to try and get the trigger buttons to register.

Officially, the last known controller to work with the game was the Xbox 360 controller.

Other controllers may work with the game but their performance may encounter certain issues. Another thing to note is the compatibility on Ubisoft Connect and Steam can differ, with Steam having the additional option for custom profiles.

I would suggest trying to change the controller schemes inside of Steams settings, first, select no config profile and test this in-game. Should this not work, please try selecting all gamepads that are displayed, using this guide, to see check if all the controller profiles are affected >

Please note, there are some limits to what we can advise if you are using an unofficially supported controller with the game, so a workaround may be needed.

Thanks for the response.

Sadly, I only have an Xbox 360 Controller (Wired) and the buttons still have the trigger problems (it's an in-game problem for some odd reason), an Xbox One Controller, and a Switch Pro Controller. :/ I've tried them all with the default config. I could try again, but I don't have high hopes it'll work.

Hi there Aegis Runestone.

Sorry to hear this persists with your wired 360 pad too.

Were you able to try changing the controller schemes inside Steams settings at all?

Many thanks.

Yes, I was. Didn't do a thing.

Hello Aegis Runestone!

Thank you for getting back to us regarding your controller issue. Just in case, could you also check via the manufacturer website that your controller has all the latest updates?

Also, we've had reports from Players about a workaround from Steam controls settings directly. Could you try to tick/untick the ''Xbox configuration support'' and verify if it changes anything for you?

Let me know the result of these steps!
