How do I fly once I am a bird?

I know you hit [SPACE] to jump, then [E] to change into a bird, but from that point forward, all my bird does is nose dive and I reset. I tried using the mouse and nothing changed, think I tried the WASD buttons as well. Nothing in options screen. Help?

The flight controls are inverted by default. When you have transformed, press S to fly upwards.

I am adding on to this thread as the subject is very similar.
I finally got to flying and while "S" does cause me to go up I can only go so high. On a PC and that might be the issue, not sure.

What happens is that I see the island I want to go to but I cannot fly high enough to actually GET to the island -- for example the waterfall one. I can only go slightly higher than the BOTTOM of the floating island. I tried several times. I did find out that if I save the game (apparently close enough to the place I am trying to get to) when I continue with the game it takes me to the ground level of that island -- and in human form.

So I am guessing I can continue doing this save and continue bit again, but is there anything else I could do to actually fly at a height above some of the islands I need to get to?

There's a button to flap your wings. Not sure what it is on keyboard, possibly F?

Thanks. Not "F" which is the lantern (I remembered that :D). I tried a bunch of left hand keys and can't flap. I think I did flap at one point. Would be GREAT if they had the flight controls on the SETTINGS bar. Google only found one place with the wrong letters (A and X). They didn't work -- or don't now. But good to know that there IS a way.

Hopefully someone can put the key(s) in here. If I figure it out, I will.

OK I found the answer in a video == also of course in the game when you get out of the cave (and I didn't write it down - bad bad).

FOR A PC --- spacebar flaps wings once you are in flight.

Use the space bar to "FLAP" your wings while also holding S to ascend. or W to descend. Then click both L and R mouse buttons at the same time to both slow down and hover before landing. Test these techniques out for a bit and you'll get the hang of it. ;) happy flying.

I hate the controls on this game. I love the game, but the controls are really non-intuitive. Mostly I can remember about the spacebar since it's the single most common jump key for every game ever made on PC, but using WASD for anything else is... really hard to remember.

Controls for anyone else who needs them:

W= forward(Ground mode) Down(flight Mode)
S= Backwards (ground) Up(air)
A&D= left and right in both modes.
Space= Jump/Flap
E= turn into bird (outdoors only)
F= Lantern

I honestly don't see how any of that is unintuitive. Every single control choice is both logical and intuitive, if you've ever played a PC game. They are essentially canned controls.

"z" goes up, "s" goes down. That's intuitive using my keyboard.
