We looked into this issue and it seems like controllers will only work on MAC after you've moved the mouse first, so:
- start game
- observe that controllers don't do anything
- move the mouse
- observe that controllers now work as they should

I hope this will work for you.

Thanks for the tip but sadly it didn't work. I did try and start the game when not in Big Picture mode and the controller worked in the menu but starting a game and trying to progress the dialog it didn't work again. I do realize that owning a Steam Controller I have to be patient with it not really always working with games but I still really want to play the game.:D

I have the same problem with the controller on my Mac. I might get the controller working while in the main menu, sometimes, but as soon as the game starts it does not use the controller at all. Either it does just show the keyboard keys to use instead of the controller keys and since does not respond to the controller or, if it shows the controller keys, which I managed to get working once in about 10 tries, the only controller key that is working is the Steam button to open the Steam overlay menu, but nothing else.

Hi. I have the same problem. I just bought the steamn controller with the idea of playing that game :-/ . In the product page they say it is 100% compatible with steam controller.
I´m on a mac book pro Sierra 10.12.6

I can go into the game, camara is working, character jumps, but character doesn´t move forward (W), back...
neither take out the light...

Please, Can some developer or steam crew help us?

Same issue here. New MacBookPro, 10.13.4, issues with keyboard (trackpad?) sticking and contoller sticking. (I guess it's sticking. It acts like a key or trackpad is being held down but it seems to change some. I.e. I can control a little bit and then there's no input.)

I got things working. I had to change my track pad settings (to the most minimal input options), apparently my wrists were touching it and causing stray input. _And_ I had a sticky key (thank you, new Macbook book keyboard) that was was holding down "w" for a bit. Things seem to be working okay, now.

Oh, and I figured it out by swtiching to a PS4 controller (and noting the same issues and figuring it was the Macbook, not the controller).

Unfortunately for me this did not apply. I tried on my company Macbook as well with the same issues, and all 3 controllers that I own (PS4, Steam and XBOX) do work on the Macbook, just not in this game.
So ...did anyone ever get an answer to this? Is AER steam controller friendly using a Mac? Because I've tried everything and can't figure it out and have all the same issues as above -a couple features work in the main menu, but as soon as the game starts ...nothing. Just the game keyboard strokes.

This may not be of any help to you guys, and I apologize for this, but it's exactly the same on windows. The "Full Controller Support" on the store page is just plain lying. I hate Daedalic ...

Yeah, same. It's the top if the cream of a frustrating gaming day. Now this sh*t game doesn't recognize my Steam controller at all. Sometimes I hate the world :deadrat:

Lol, "full controller support" doesn't refer to the Steam controller, it means that a game supports XInput. Steam Controllers are NOT THE SAME as XBox controllers, they need their own special configurations from the community. Maybe devs of specific games would work in support or configurations helpful to Steam Controller users, but it's ultimately down to users to configure their Steam controllers to work with specific games, you can't expect such a fine instrument to run as simply as "plug'n'play" for every game ever, or even most games.

I used to be able to use my Steam controller for this game (on windows, not mac) but it recently stopped working. I think it's related to a Steam client update - it's happened to me on multiple other games as well, but the controller still works fine in some games.
