Attack variation?
I just need a simple, honest answer, are there any variations in attacks/attack animations for the individual characters? i have played for about an hour and found this to be the biggest problem for me, other than the fact that environments look like ♥♥♥♥ that didnt even pass the standards of n64 titles. characters look ok.

Each character has a unique moveset, if that's what you mean. Since you've only played for an hour, you probably haven't unlocked the characters' full movesets yet. You obtain new moves as you level up, and then you unlock their full moveset after level breaking.

I am talking about the standard basic attack combos, X-X-X and Y-Y-Y

The X-X-X and Y-Y-Y is different for every character and has new animations for each character

There also something like Y-X-X or Y-Y-X going on. So more Samurai-Warriors-ish if I remember correctly.

Just mix up the attack like Y-X-Y-X and so on just try to find some more combo's not saying that one is one :P

XXX,XXY,XY or YYY,YYX,YX - these are the only combos, or combo variations available for atleast Zoro and Luffy at the beginning of the game, it seems that the game allows for one additional attack during the rush thing. and i am trying to find more combos, that is why i am asking!

Is this all there is?

That is not all there is. You get more moves added to your strings as you level up. And once you level break, the moves that used to be available only during Kizuna Rush get added to your normal (as in non-rush) moveset. The full moveset, after level-breaking, looks a little something like this.

X string:
XXXXX this is the regular weak attack string
XY
XYY
XYYY
XXY
XXYY
XXYYY
XXXY
XXXXY

Y string:
YYY
YXXX
YYXXX

I hope I got that right, somebody correct me if I didn't.

Like the last dude said, it gets more extensive the more you level up. The fun with games like these (like f.e. Hyrule Warriors) is unlocking new characters, progressing through the story, becoming ridiculously strong by unlocking more and new combo's combined with skill/equipment forging.

The Dynasty Warriors series is not all about deep/complex combat, it's about clearing mission objectives as fast/fluid as possible, and learning to use your musou/kizune mode in good harmony with all your other moves.

It's not very advanced but it's far from simple, it's balanced fun! ^^
