PW3 covers the half of the Story from PW4 , was at start disappointed bc i startet PW4 right after PW3 and the story was for so long the same with big jumps..i would say if you are into story get PW3 first if you prefer Gameplay and Graphics PW4 is a no brainer
I just know that you can do air combos (in PW3 you can't jump at all) and something about the musou of the characters.
I will buy it as soon as I beat PS3.
But I'm going slow since I'm also watching the anime to avoid spoilers during the story mode XD
And it's really full of fillers... I'm thinking to just read the manga instead.
Anyway, other good One Piece games out there? I have seen that te WIi games are pretty good, but I don't own a WIi anymore (although I do still have a lot of games for that platform).
What about the latest games released on PC/Switch?
I had high hopes for Burning Blood, but had to refund it, I'm just not into those kind of games. I was pretty hyped for World Seeker, but didn't even purchase it, the world seemed so dead and empty, it would just annoy me, but the story looked amazing on that. Jump Force looks good, will probs get it later.
There's OP: Unlimited World Red, seems pretty good, but dunno how it is really, barely got far in it, movement speed is kinda slow which infuriates me haha.
PW4 covers less story arcs than PW3, but it does them a lot better. In PW3 most story arcs are just 1 mission, so they have to cut a lot of stuff and shoehorn it into a format that would work in the game over 1 mission. For PW4, what used to be a whole chapter in PW3 is dedicated to a single story arc in PW4, and so they can have it fitting a bit more closely to canon with 4,5 or 6 missions to each arc, and can do stuff they missed in prev games (like Luffy's initial fight with Crocodile for example).
PW4 doesn't completely skip the arcs it doesnt cover BTW - it gives an alright recap of important things that are missed, not the best but it's something. I kinda like that you're not slogging through arcs you've played in earlier games - you can play post-timeskip characters for around half the missions I guess, whereas in PW3 it's the last fifth.
If you want to avoid spoilers though, PW4 is really bad for that - the "tutorial" you have to play before doing the story missions has you playing as late-arc luffy, and spoils some of his abilities etc right off the bat haha. But then PW3 speeds through the arcs pretty quickly so you'll either have to accept spoilers, or go on hiatus xD. I would definitely recommend reading the manga btw, you'll catch up much quicker than the anime, and story/comedy is usually done better too - action scenes can get a bit messy but most people watch fights in the anime too. Both are good though.
PW4 is just better in general. I think the kizuna rush stuff has gone, but you get arial combat now, and dashing, which is just so much more fun - you can chain then and do crazy combos. The models, animations and effects are all way better. It's definitely more fun to play the characters post-timeskip, and that bit is more fleshed out and done better in PW4.
For PW4, don't play until you've at least caught up to Dressrosa in manga/anime, and preferably a bit into Wano Kingdom arc too lol, that's a huge task really. Or have someone play the start 5 mins for you, to unlock the actual story missions, then do the same as with PW3... I feel like the story is better explained in PW4 though but still.. Better to experience the plot reveals from the manga or anime, than a musou game haha!
It will be a loooong run...I just want to avoid fillers if possible.
I feel a bit the same way... but there's like 900 episodes of the anime at this point. Just getting myself to the Dressrosa arc would take watching like 3 hours of it every day for a month. And it's so freakin' draggy and slow.
Also because I am watching the anime in italian, and at some point they just decided to change some of the dubber (even the Lufy one). It will feels weird.
PW3 is a really fun game but you´ll have to decide if you´re ok with not knowing everything about the story. PW4 has 3 repeated arcs (with better maps) and the canon story of dressrosa (in PW 3 the ending was game original) plus 2 new ones but the latest arc is also partially canon because the manga/anime aren´t done.
As far as gameplay l think l like this one better, mainly because of the dash cancels. PW4 removed that but it has aerial combat and it gives you more control over your special attacks, it also has a bigger playable cast and the graphics actually work, in PW3 the graphics are stuck on the low settings for some reason, maybe they ported the ps3 version.
About other OP games, l think the only one l actually like is the fighting game Burning Blood; looks great and it´s fun for local matches or just with the AI, it has destructible arenas like PW4 and it´s probably the best retelling of the Marineford arc in games. The biggest problem is the non-existent balance, for obvious reasons logia characters are way stronger, like in the anime, so it´s a bad thing but also good for fans.
