About why I like this game - it shows a bit different... place, environment where the story takes place - No, it is not some generic Japan-esque school... It is - The Soviet Union! Or at least some parts of it.
About what is it to say... Well, there are many ways you can see this story and it's ending - I don't think that there is a set statement about what it's ending means - it is up to you.
I myself prefer to think that Semyon is not a person suited for exploration and discovery - In his place, I would have taken a closer look at trees plants and my surroundings - In other words, he sure likes to be distracted, either by Olga Dmitrevna's orders, other girls he meets around the camp and even his own lazyness, doesn't he..?
And, do you really even need a closure?
You can just consider this as our main characters dream. Nothing more. Or perhaps a dream that actually made him to change his way of living. So, in this case - Dreams can help people change... I am not sure if only for good, though...
As I said, you can interpret the story in any way you want...
Any answer is better than no answer. I am glad to hear you had to interpret it, that means that it's possible I'm not losing my mind in thinking that the story has no real conclusion as to what happened to him. Whether it's a dream or schizophrenia or time loops or parallel universes with no solution as to why they happened or what caused them or ... what the heck is happening.
Anyway, the story is a little chaotic, which is probably why you didn't understand it at first or even now. Semyon is just a lazy f*cker who happens to be Russian and sees his life as mere suffering, or something not enjoyable or he just doesn't have the ability to find happiness.
If I remember correctly, as this is all coming from prior knowledge, Semyon gets on a bus, drunk as f*ck and hazed on Weed, that the dude literally passes out after several minutes.... jk....
Now, imagine the bus is the Magic School Bus (MSB), and Mrs. Fritz is gonna take ya on a ride through Summer Russia, coz Winter ain't f*cking helpin your sorry ass, now is it? But you don't know she's doin it coz you done f*cked up with all that S m i r n o f f and that pound of G r a s s.
You wake up, seemingly hangovered, come off the MSB, and start looking around. Even though the scenary looks nice, you start whinin for mommy coz "woe is me".
Some hot looking babe come over to check you out, sees you aight, and leaves ya hangin, coz dats what hoes do.
And the rest is up to you to tell the tale. Just follow along and decide what Semyon would do given his character, or go by your own rules. There are multiple endings and as far as I am concerned, people just wanna grind this game to get all the endings.
Peace out.
I don't remember Semyon being drunk or otherwise psychologically compromised as he got on the bus in the prologue - you sure you aren't mistaken this game for some mod? There are plenty
of mods out there...
As for about who are ladies are, everyone has their opinion on who they are, what kind of behavior they exhibit and details like that.
The final (true) ending explains it all and wraps thing pretty well so I highly recommend you try to get it because the emotional punch is much satisfying than having everything handed to you.
To get the true ending, you need to finish all the good routes: Slavya, Ulyanna, Miku, Lena, Alisia. I'd recommend consulting a guide if you're confused (or not all that interested in some of the characters, but they all have something to offer: more depth and a different viewpoint - i digress).
That said, if you really dont care and just want an answer, this thread explains things pretty well:

BUT again I highly recommend you to finish all the routes and get the final ending yourself. The final ending brought the game from being 'decent' to a 'great' in my book
