Most, if not everyone I've seen after reinstalling it are playing the game on console (which isn't a bad thing).
After reinstalling it, and starting brand new, I couldn't figure out what the hell I was supposed to do for 30-45 minutes running around the town, because the game basically told me nothing. Did not show me hotkeys, or how to get to the menu I needed to get to in order to progress. If that's the new player experience, Steam isn't going to help whatsoever.
Not to mention the game is literally a "Monster Rush Arena". It was neat going back to see that each map had more than one monster on it to hunt, but incredibly boring, as the map space is limited, and the combat zone you fight it remains in a limited battle zone for each monster. None of them make any attempts to run away, or limp, or move zones, from what I could see, no monsters actually fight each other like "turf Wars'. All in all, just a boring experience.
The very first quest, or what resembles that, where the quest marker wants you to go, took me a godamned Microtransaction cosmetic shop. If that's literally where the very first quest brings you... May god have mercy on this games soul.
That alone is gonna kill any popularity it might have
Never had any problems with Epic Store, nor Steam Store, using both 50/50. Not sure why people still cry about Epic like it is some sort of Satan incarnate. I got about 300 games from it for free, including Brotato, BearAndBreakfast and MeatBoyForever just recently. Overall quality of games in Epic also manyfold higher without endless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crap releasing daily.
Besides, this is not just 'late launch', this is complete game rework, just devs decided not to go full of themself and call it PoE '2', cough, i mean Dauntless 2. And it's free, not some 10-y long EA and not 'pay us $30 to get access'.
lol i'm not even surprised, greed is a hell of a drug
making you set up an epic account is greed???? Lots of titles require secondary accounts this isn't any different. Y'all pick the wildest ♥♥♥♥ to cry over.
