Pretty much the same as Grandia 2 only with Ryudo instead opting for neither.
In the ending, Ryudo explains that he believes neither in light or dark, he believes in people, this was essentially a euphomism used to friendzone both of them. Grandia 2 is filled with euphomisms, Geohound is one of them. So by the end, Elena and Millenia were friendzoned and Ryudo continues travelling across the world to see it in a new perspective rather than his pessimistic perspective
That's basically the gist anyways.

I wish more JRPG's had main characters like Ryudo instead of "insert idiotic protagonist here" Ryudo, despite comming across as an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was quite possibly the wisest person in the entire game. It's because of him that everyone changed. If it wasn't for Ryudo, people would still be moping about. Ryudo's purpose in the game was to knock sense into people's heads and bring them back to reality. The only thing he lacked as a character was conviction, he didn't care about people because the people of his hometown treated him like ♥♥♥♥ and his brother betrayed his trust. Sure every main protagonist needs to have a weakness but that doesn't mean they all need to brain-dead idiots or annoyingly immature. Ryudo felt more mature than most JRPG protaganists which is quite ironic considering his age and by the end of the game, he had become a true man.
Now if only characters like Tidus could take some lessons from Ryudo, the world of JRPG's would be a far better place. All Tidus did was whine and moan the whole game... and Final Fantasy X pretty much shared the same plot... but man did it make for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ experience because of Tidus alone. I hate whiny characters so much.
Regardless we all live differrent lives so it's a subjective point really. In any case, i wasn't tanking about being "relatable" i was talking about character "stregnths" Tidus had absolutely zero positive character traits, sure he might be a star blitzball player but that's not exactly a character trait, that's just a personal talent. Character traits are stregnths and weaknesses in character, not skill.
Lets look at Master Chief for example, he's a character with absolutely zero weaknesses (so far at least though it's hinted that they might give him one in halo 5) and that makes him a dull character.
Tidus is the same but he only has weaknesses, he doesn't have any character traits that stand out as good. Ryudo on the other hand has Wisdom, plus he has discipline right from the beginning heck he can also be surprisingly respectful of people. However he's also burdened with weaknesses such as lack of conviction and being bad at expressing himself and all that.
Tidus is just whiny, obnoxious, impatient, stupid... i could go on all day... as for positives? Uh... he's good at Blitzball.... thats about it.
To write a good character, you need to give them both strong and weak character traits and it seems most main protagonists in JRPG's come across as weak with very few if any stregnths and it makes you think "why the hell do I want to play as this guy"!?
