This. I really dig that whole family working together thing and to be able to mix two characters together would be really fun to do.
Besides there is already AI avalaible and working in the dungeons beyond the Prologue. You can find other family members in the dungeons and I just fought alongside the daughter. It's not so hard to implement. Let's hope it's going to be a valid option added in the future.
Artifacts / Trinkets (forgot the name of the thing, top pick up bar) that give us temporary followers. 1 is for melee and the 2nd is ranged. Another i found heals over time.
There are also another type of thing that gives you diferent totems that you can place, dmg dealers, pushers and pullers.
The wolf we rescue and then heal and then build a house for looks like a companion to me, but maybe she will be a full fledged character. That would be cool.
good luck ahve fun
It's quite a large job to make a competent AI with so many factors and I'm not a fan of the cheap alternative of just making AI allies unkillable one way or another and making no real attempts to keep themselves alive in terms of positioning/dodging/etc as it's normally very easy to abuse such things, especially if the AI is given john and you play linda for example - an invulnerable damage sponge between you and your enemies is obviously OP. With that in mind, I'd probably keep an eye for news of it being added, but wouldn't be concerned if it's not in for the initial release.
So to get that back I plugged in a controller and macro'd it to spam the attack button. Aim assist (built in game feature) came in handy too, it targeted nearby enemies perfectly. Getting it to follow me takes effort though. In the end I ended up just recruiting my brother who does not game at all. We had fun. He even came back for another round the next day.
Great list. I found one more: +Companion that stuns enemies
