Melee seems kinda weak...
So I've been playing for a few hours and Linda seems pretty good, but John... goodness he just takes so much damage all the time.

I block, and a swarm of bats descends on me from all angles.

I take loads of chip damage from the tiny minions in almost every fight.

Anyone else find the melee classes to be impossible to keep alive?

"Gitting Gud" aside, this is my initial impression.

Anyone else have this experience?

Well, if you surrounded by enemies, instead of blocking, you dodge and gather them in one pack, then only attack.

Melee not weak, did you unlock Kevin or Mark yet?

melee is doable, but much more tedious then linda or the fire girl.
especially the later acts are way more relaxed with the ranged girls.

I've only got John and Linda at the moment, and Linda just seems flat out better to me so far. I'm looking forward to trying out all the characters as I get them, but this was just my first impression of melee.

And of course I was dodging as often as possible, but John's only got the one dodge charge and it's not a particularly fast cooldown.

The best bet with John is to keep your distance from big groups and try and use the terrain to funnel them towards you in a controlled fashion. The block is more useful than the dodge as you can use it more often. If you do get surrounded is when you should save your dodge and get out of there, reposition to where you can have a bit more control over their approach. You will take hits with him though, its inevitable.

I do think he is one of the less interesting characters to play but I find that is the case with Tanks in general in any game. He is kind of solid and reliable but not my fave. There are a lot of family members though so if he doesn't work too well for you I am sure someone will.

John's sword rain is incredibly good at killing groups of enemies. you run into the room. gather them up in clumps and then sword rain them down for free money.

Yeah that is great for crowd control, especially with the weaker enemies that rely on mobbing you.

Wait till you get that rogue guy... I killed the first boss first try with him

Melee is not weak. It is, however, more difficult to play well. Higher skill ceiling, if you will. Thus it can seem weaker because you're more likely to screw up with melee than ranged, for the most part.

John, for example, can do a lot more damage than Linda. (For simplicity sake, I'm not going to include runes in that assumption, because runes can vary from run to run and change things up drastically.) But he's much more vulnerable and requires more skill and timing to avoid dying while also getting all of his damage out efficiently.

However, if you DO manage to get good enough with, say, John... he's a wrecking ball, putting it simply. I cleared the first spirit with John and it was good. Had to take a break from him cuz of the corruption, but yeah, he's a badass.

I actually find John easier to play than i do Linda.

Just unlocked Kevin. He's pretty fun and with 3 dodges I can managed to avoid damage much easier than with John.

I did beat the spider boss with John today, but that was only due to having that one charm that brings you back at 50% health when you die.

I'm liking Kevin a lot so far. Swiftness is more my speed. (I won't apologize for the pun).

It wouldn't bother me that melee isn't great if you didn't get corruption sickness and have to rotate out your characters.

I can't play John at all because he relies on blocking which I always forget to do. Kevin is decent but against bosses the melee characters just get absolutely demolished.

Meanwhile I can thrash the boss of Act 1 with Lucy and not even get hurt. I dunno, it does feel weird.

It's fine you can stunlock 80% or ennemies.

^This. I had massive trouble with Linda on the first boss. I tried it several times and could not kill the spider boss. Then i tried with Kevin and killed the Spider the first try^^ Kevin is OP.

I feel the opposite ranged is kinda meh. The game rewards the ranged characters for standing still lmao. Furthermore they're squishy as hell and have low dps, you can just facetank and kill bosses with the melees but with ranged you get hit you die.

I finding the little fire mage kinda weak, primary attack is somehow need to be static stand while 2nd unlock spell is drawing tornado but doesn't do much of damage when mobs are running around..
Melee like knight, assassin and monk is still stronger than ranged list at the moment..
