Impressed by how badly this sold.
Game sold only 6k copies in 3 weeks according to Steamspy?

This isn't a very reliable as an exact figure, but it's reliable in that you can see the sales obviously sucked.

I think Sonic Boom has really destroyed customer confidence in Sega and this is one of the results of that. All games released pre-Sonic Boom did far far better than this.

Lost World is a game of somewhat questionable quality released in the period of the so called "AAA" games and with little marketing. It was also released right after the halloween sale.

From what I see around, it's also a game that quite a few say that "no one asked for this", understandly so since there's alot other SEGA games that people would rather have gotten on PC, even when it comes to Sonic games (I wonder if it would have done better if it was ported/released after other much more requested games/franchises).

I'm not that much surprised about the numbers, though I think it may get somewhat decent numbers once it gets into the spotlight through a daily/midweek/weekend type deal...maybe...

I'm sad that Lost World sold so poorly, actually.

It's not a BAD game, it's justa bit different.

It's a game from 2013, even if it was widely known as being good, which it isn't, it would still sell badly 2 years after its original release. That's the reality of games in general.

Generations has been out on PC much longer, has had price drops, and was in a Humble Bundle. Of course it'll have dramatically outsold Lost World.

Generations definitely did not sell this badly at release.

And I think many PC gamers are older, and the older ones still remember Sonic. So it's selling mainly on Nostalgia imo.

Also, most Sonic games were like Lost World. Decent but nothing special, eversince the Genesis Sonics. I definitely don't think Lost World is all that terrible, it does a lot of great things.

But imo the problem is with Sonic Boom having really dragged the Sonic name down the mud.

That game wasn't just decent or simple, it was downright aweful. Not even Sonic 06 was that bad. Boom is like Zelda CDI, but then imagine Nintendo actually being the one that released it.

That's not true at all. Valkyria Chronicles, originally released on 2008 for the PS3, was ported to PC 1 year ago, in this 1 year it sold as much as Sonic Generations PC since its release.

I'm worried not because of this game particularly but because these bad results may prevent SEGA from release further console-exclusive titles on PC.

The game also bombed on Wii U (even by Wii U standards), so it's not a huge surprise to me that it bombed at launch. I'm sure sales will pick up once there's a decent sale; hopefully during the Steam Winter Sale.

Disappointed they're so bad. I actually never had this game on my radar but I'm really impressed with it. It's the most Sonic-y feeling 3D Sonic game yet, in my humble opinion.

It's not a good game.

It not selling well is the market working.

For one, Valkyria is an extremely well-received game, the complete opposite of Sonic Lost World. Secondly, its sales history is a more unique case, in which it initially sold badly because it was a new IP so people didn't know what to expect. After some time had passed and it was well known to be a classic, it could profit from a new release. Basically my point is that it should've sold way more than it did on its original release.

Sonic games on the end work the opposite way. People buy them immediately upon release because they're Sonic games, and often get burned by the quality, even though they knew the risk. Then you give the game some time in the sun and interest can only drop from there as word of mouth or lack thereof (nobody was talking about this game anymore) spreads.

Well, you said that even if a game is widely known as being good, it'd sell badly if ported 2 years after the original release, I was just replying to that. Wasn't replying about Lost World or Sonic games.
MetalSlime Nov 25, 2015 @ 12:21pm
Sonic Boom wasn't even developed by Sega, and Lost World is actually good despite the reviews. At least in my opinion.
