The original State of Decay was pretty much the same for console and PC right? But then on YOSE, MS released the game with locked content here. I know the whole 'Keep Calm' thing are all over the official forum, but I can't help of thinking that they might pull the same thing for the Steam version of SoD2...... I want to be proven wrong on this of course.
It might've been better if they just kept the whole franchise console exclusive if they're going to continue the trend though.
I'm not sure anybody would benefit from removing the game from PC and I think it's a rather redundant suggestion. All this would create is massive rage that the game isn't coming to PC from the community of people that are actually looking forward to it.
And SOD2 is physically sharing save files with the console variant (cross play on W10) so the possibility of it is off the table.
It seems too much like they gated content onto the XBONE hoping that diehard SoD players would purchase the XBONE for the unqiue rewards. The console wars have always had exclusive titles they used to try to sell next gen consoles.
Then they better not lock out official content this time around that the console folks have access to when we pay the same price for the game. I won't even mind if they decide to release it at a later date for Steam. Official content shouldn't have to be modded in.
To be fair, most of the relevent challenge content actually spawns in the PC version of YOSE anyways. The challenge character Milo Eldridge and a portion of the challenge guns are already part of the loot list, and console players had only the timed event to get them. I don't have YOSE on console so I can't confirm if that's all or if I even explained that correctly, but from what I know for sure the two challenge cars don't spawn and a few challenge guns don't spawn either (but all of them exist in the game files). The only other things that don't are the resource reward drops (which aren't exclusive content anyways).
Technically it isn't vanilla content either as these were given to console players during timed community challenge events. Apparently the events will come around again next year for those who missed them, but that's the full shizzam. Long story short, we aren't missing much other than two novelty cars and a very small amount of themed guns that are already matched in YOSE anyways or can easily be added to the spawn list via files.
Yea, I've modded the fireman stuffs to be lootable at the fire station and such, the silenced assault weapons I don't even care for since I've set the CLEO weapons to full OP (I still need to retrieve them from the supply drop though - no changes from the search/loot table for it).
My concern however is for State of Decay 2, if MS got away with it here, would they do the same for the sequel be it something trivial or not? Hence again, I don't like the idea of official content being locked out, again.
There isn't much info on how it works though, for all I know, Steam will have it's own version *shrugs* ...no idea really. And I want to keep my games in one place. I've even passed up Origin exclusive games for that matter, maybe I'm just weird like that with my preference.
edit:
I forgot to mention also that when I have extra money, I put it in my Steam Wallet since this is the primary store I buy games nowadays, so I need to purchase SoD2 here.
Same here with Origin and UPlay games. Steam already has its own DRM, I don't want another layer.
From what I have come to understand, XBONE uses an operating system that is highly compatible with Win10, therefore making programming for both console and PC very interchangeable for the purpose of porting and cross-platform play.
That's definitely another reason, I don't want another app that does the same thing as the one that I already have. It's just ....junk to me and a waste of hardrive space.
Another way to force players to either get a console or W10...
Not only that, but it's one more password I have to remember. Between my private and professional life, I have enough passwords to warrant a mini-composition book.
I really hope not. I feel it would really limit their potential PC customer base. Of course, maybe Undead Labs wants to avoid Steam in the future, especially after the uproar over Year-One in the forums ... it was virtual trench warfare. Pick a side and dig in, it's going to be a rough one.
O.o
Also SOD is confirmed to be cross-platform-play so it shouldn't be something we debate about. It has to be the same game on both ends for the shared save file to even work because I highly doubt they will take away content when you switch spectrums.
To quote only a portion of the FAQ:
"...one purchase will get you both the Xbox One and Windows 10 versions of the game. And with Xbox Live and cloud save support, your Achievements and progress sync between devices, so you can switch between them and retain your community and progress in the game."
