i believe you can but im not sure what sort of conflicts you might encounter if you dont have the same version/dlc. might be only the host needs everything.

sadly, my pc is too potato to play the 2nd one.

so my opinion on 2 is purely as a viewer in comparison to actually playing 1.

2 is hands down better. although it lacks a story they fleshed out the mechanics more and overall it looked more enjoyable to play compared to my experience playing 1, after the new game shinies were off this was a frustrating game for me at times despite being pretty good at it. 2 is also multiplayer and with games like this, unless you're a bunch of try hards, its going to be a glorious cluster f. even if you are try hards it might still be a cluster f and that can actually be really fun. finally, as a viewer i enjoyed 2 more as well, i bought it during this summer sale* but i watched a lot of both when they were first released.

so that said, you may also wish to start a discussion asking others that question to get replies from people that actually played it or look for similar topics. could also go into 2's discussion forum and ask there to ensure you get 2's players.
