What is the difference between PC 2013 release, and yose ?
every time i'm looking for info, it looks like xbox 360 version vs yose, which i do not care for.
So:
what is the difference between steam 2013 PC release, which already allowed 1080p from my memories, + DLC lifeline & breakdown,
with YOSE ?

graphics, really ? i mean, pc 2013 release was already supposed to be an improvement in graphics and FPS, they just re-release another PC version 2 years later with better shadows ?
(i really don't know, i want a precise answer lol, as usual, steam or dev never specifies what)

And, does the YOSE stop the crappy "resource consumed and random events while i'm not playing the game" ?
(nexus mod for this, but what's the point of buy again a version with the same troubles)

I think there were graphical improvements between the very latest 2013 build vs YOSE. But many new textures and items were added into original.

There's likely some stability issues I'm not aware of.

The 11/18 sticky about the update is probably YOSE only too.

At least 4 more heroes were added to breakdown in YOSE. I had full roster in original. Also, Breakdown when I played it on 2013 release stopped getting more challenging around level 15, but now it gets more difficult all the way to level 99.

Concerning resource consumption and random events: I think they limited it to 1 day worth of game time. I could be wrong though. Also, the resources you get form outposts are more reliable, so you shouldn't be hit too hard. AS for random events, if your base is built right your people will be happy and likely won't disappear.

All in all, YOSE seems more forgiving and easier than 2013 release. I liked the added difficulty of snacks/ammo/weapons going missing. To me the game is not "picnic with zombies simulator" it's "zombie apocalypse simulator;' bad stuff should happen. The fun is that I'm unable to completely control the situation.

I think all in all, if you want to load up some runs to revisit the game get YOSE. I uninstalled the original and didnt' look back.

Better graphics, life line and break down dlc. Life line is where you control a squad of soldiers and rescue people inisde a city filled with zombies. Gets harder as you progress, Break down is like the campaign except (Not sure but) no missions and it's unlimtied time, seeing how long you can survive. This is jsut background info, im still trying to discover the other thigns about YOSE.

The "Steam 2013" release is of the Xbox 360 XBLA title State of Decay ported to steam. It still abides by the restrictions and policies of XBLA and cannot be added to anymore because of those policies, it is removed from the Steam store.

I'd do your research if you want to make a dedicated decision. I've compiled the main differences, there are more minor ones I perhaps missed but there's more than the above response implies.

Core things:

- Revamped difficulty arch for Breakdown
- New soundtrack
- New HUD
- Redone animations
- Dx11 card requirement
- CLEO missions type with CLEO weapons
- Comes with all extra game modes (Endless mode, Lifeline military storyline) and their added content is now spread across each mode

Not so core things:

- Incedianary shotguns
- new cars/colors of previous cars all over the place
- knife fighting/unarmed attack
- crafting ammo
- New ways to repair vehicles
- Crafting coffee/snacks from the kitchen
- Higher res graphics
- 2 new survivors
- New breakdown heroes (lifeline survivors)
- Longer draw distance/graphical improvements

I think that's most of the stuff that you will notice, apart from the vehicles. There's smaller under-the-hood things like improved vehicle physics and draw distance. However the computer requirements are a bit more demanding. Slower comps tend to draw the worst performance out of the physics engine resulting in clipping if the zed count gets too high.

Hope that helps. If you really want more state of decay, this is how you will get it, but if you have exhausted the original I'd wait for a sale.

The original is apparently for sale at only $4.60 on Amazon, and it's a Steam code: https://www.amazon.com/State-Decay-Online-Game-Code/dp/B00GU041PY/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

If I were to purchase the original, would I be able to upgrade in any way from the original to YOSE?

I've been turned off from buying YOSE because I've heard a lot of mixed things about it, mainly in regards to the graphical changes, the fact there's supposedly more bugs, and many mods from the original no longer work with YOSE. These are criticisms I've heard from a couple of years ago though, so I'm not sure how much it's changed since then.

I've also noticed that YOSE is much brighter than the original (which looked better), but it almost looks like just a preset gamma difference. Would just playing with the gamma make YOSE look like the original, or are there mods that fix this?

An Amazon review also mentions this:

I actually didn't buy this to play it as I already owned State of Decay: YOSE. I bought this for 2 bonuses. The Prepper's Pack which is no longer being given and the Bonus Character with some gear, which as far as I know is still being given. The catch is you need to have THIS game in your Steam Library + the YOSE version to get the bonus(es). This is JUST the core game, and there is 2 DLC both currently selling for 7 bucks each on Steam. Short version is, this game plus the 2 DLC will run you about 34 bucks + tax OR you can get the YOSE version for 30 bucks which includes the 2 DLC, downside is you won't get the bonus character & gear.

Not sure if this is accurate though, or if this DLC is even worth it.

You've missed the part from the post above you that the original SoD was for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade that was limited to 2gb which was then ported to the PC after it's been out for awhile, and then YOSE was for Xbox One.

Since we're talking about Microsoft here that wants to sell you their console, they're not going to make an 'upgrade' simple for the PC. Also, you don't need YOSE if you already have and been enjoying the original.

Those 'reviews', it's been awhile since I've checked those but, the negative reviews mostly all say that they liked/enjoyed the original but hated having to 'upgrade'. They're mostly complaints and not really the gameplay review they're meant to do. YOSE requires a slightly more better hardware at that compared to the original (dx 11 capable card being one of the critical requirement also).

I wasn't sure because even though it's no longer available on the Steam Store, you can still purchase it elsewhere and activate it with a Steam key, so I was a bit confused. But looking back now, I do remember that people were forced to buy the game all over again as opposed to some kind of discounted upgrade, it's been awhile since I've looked into this game.

Still would like clarification on the other things I mentioned (mod support, bugs, brightness etc.)

If you want to know the differences between games I have laid most of that out for you above. I make character mods for YOSE and can confirm they exist. A lot of mods for YOSE work and a few modders made updated versions for YOSE. A positive difference with YOSE is that content that came previously in DLCs is part of the files shared for all games now so making/distributing mods that utilize all expansion content at the same time is far more viable.

That's good to know, but how do the bugs and technical issues compare at this point? Are they mainly limited to the DLC? That's the impression I've gotten with the reviews. I've seen some people say it's just a different set of bugs, but the focus on YOSE is pretty big.

Still curious about the brightness, I'm guessing that's just a preset gamma difference? I much prefer the original's darkness over YOSE.

I can't speak of the brightness as I know that it looks different in some areas more than others.

As for bugs, it's not limited to the other game modes but it's mostly just physics buggery due to the outdated engine. You'll see a fair share of it, there is an extended draw distance this time around so that has something to do with it, but they aren't consistent by any means. It goes without saying but any bugs shouldn't block your progress whatsoever.

Bumping this to clarify one last thing, but I noticed that the trailer on the store page says that owners of the original get the exclusive character and the Prepper's pack. The Amazon comment claimed they're only available in the original edition, but apparently it was also available to people who pre-ordered YOSE or bought it on day one. Is there any other way to get access t othese?

And is there anything special about the exclusive character, or the pre-order knives? (I'm guessing the latter are just skins.)
Magic Mark Jul 8, 2017 @ 11:22pm
Knives - just visual, don't apply to PC I don't think.

Exclusive character is Gurubani, has a few good traits and starts with good skills. Comes with extra supplies when radio'd in. Otherwise she is just an extra survivor for the random survivor roster.

Preppers pack was a pre-order DLC I'm pretty sure.
trev0r Jul 9, 2017 @ 8:23am
So you have both? I'm guessing you got them via pre-ordering/day one purchase or having upgraded?

In my searches, I couldn't find really any way to indicate how to get them outside of this. There's no Steam workshop available either, so I don't know for sure if anyone made attempts to import them or atleast attempt to recreate them, but I've seen no indication anyone really has. Nothing on Nexus Mods either.

On top of that, are there any mods you'd recommend for YOSE?
Magic Mark Jul 9, 2017 @ 8:37am
I'm working on my own character mods, but nothing I can send just yet.

I'm not 100% solid on how you get Gurubani if you own the original on Steam, I had her when I got YOSE.
trev0r Jul 9, 2017 @ 9:00am
There's probably no way to get them without having pre-ordered, bought on day one, or upgraded, from what I've seen. Strange how nobody's tried to export the files or recreated them with mods though.

I was asking about mods created by others though (if you're really familiar with any.)
