Is it just me or...
is State of Decay 2 wayyyy too easy?!

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the game (I havent ran into any game breaking bugs yet tbh), but it just feels like State of Decay with training wheels...

like why did Undead Labs nerf the ferals? I miss a single feral being a legitmate threat. Hell, I miss a single horde being a legitmate threat to a survivor that hasnt leveled up at all.

The only difficutly seems to come from my incompetent survivors whom I leave at the base. Constantly stealing ammo, "finding" moldy food and spilling over meds. Im loving the improvements though, but it just seems like such a step backward to have the game be this easy. I really loved the difficutly of the first game, kind of what drew me in to the game, because other zombie centered survival games just can't do the survival aspect well.

Im still on my first community. Just got the warehouse base (which is awesome). 8 survivors. Day 10, I think. I haven't lost a single survivor. Haven't even had any close calls yet.

I can't be the only one who thinks its way to easy, right?

People who are new seem to find it challenging where the SoD1 vets do find it easy.

To me at least, ferals in State of Decay 2 are infinitely more challenging. Their base attack now causes trauma (max health reduction) and they are no longer simple melee finishers if they miss their pounce on you. They are killable easily by headshots, which I guess makes them easier (even though their AI for dodging aiming is infinitely harder to beat - it strafes sideways instead of lightly changing their angle) but with the loss of focus aim I just can't justify this statement for me personally.

One thing that this game does that makes it much easier is that it tells you by the numbers what you can do to fix your supply problems, which removes a lot of trial and error from the first game. If anything I think this change was a long time coming but so far it's easy to manage your supplies especially with trading.

Hmmm I always thought that ferals caused wound damage...well maybe its because they always end up wounding one of my survivors in the original game. I think the biggest thing that makes State of Decay 2 easier is the fact that freak zombies show up on the map now as an indicator, which eliminates the tendancy for feral zombies to ambush you. Nothing is more scary than fending off a horde and getting literally jumped by a random feral in the original State of Decay.

I guess I could just disable the minimap, but I like the minimap. Just wish it didn't display freak zeds. Kind of depletes the purpose of a zombie that is supposed to specialize in stealth if they can't sneak up on you anymore lol

And yeah. I do like what they do in regards to supplies. I wish my fellow survivors were more competent though. I imagine that will get patched at some point hopefully, just like they did with the original State of Decay where too many survivors were being randomly killed off. They turned down the tendancy for that to happen. I think they'll probably do the same thing with supplies. There is only so many times where your survivors can spill meds and steal ammo, me thinks.

Okay nvm I think it might have just been my original start location. After moving to the container base in the middle of the town, things have gotten seriously intense. Freak zeds spawning all over the place. Hordes everywhere....mini hordes everywhere...plague hordes.

I guess I was just still in the "tutorial area". Now it feels like something out of Left 4 Dead :D

moving bases makes the game harder ?

Im really not sure, but I tried what was suggested in this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/StateOfDecay/comments/8l107s/too_easy/

Moving to a new base.

The developers have stated that there is difficulty progression over time and certain actions, I believe moving is one of them

It depends. I had a random side mission that ended up with 2 juggernaughts, 1 feral and 2 hordes spawning.. That fight I lost badly, because I wasn't geared up for that sort of fight.

It also depends on if you use all the crowd control tools. Smoke bombs, boom boxes, etc. If you don't use those, this game gets rather ugly. (I kept selling off those items for influence, without knowing how damn powerful they are)

The game does seem to get "harder" over time. When you first start out there is typically only 1 or 2 zombies at a time. Even a plague heart only has at most a dozen zombies roaming around it.

After beating the game 4 times and starting a "persistent" playthrough, I'm noticing that the zombies can get pretty insane in numbers. I'm only on like day 10-15, and I've only cleared a single plague heart (I want to keep them, so I can sell the cure.. lol).. but I'm already seeing multiple 10+ zombie hordes at a time. It's not uncommon to see 2 or 3 of those hordes in close proximity, and I've also come across double juggernauts or juggernaut/feral combos. Bloater/Horde combos are also quite common.

Honestly though, after all that time spent playing I've only lost two survivors. One was due to a juggernaut grabbing me while I was struggling to get my crouched character to stand the ♥♥♥♥ up and actually move at a decent speed and perform a melee finisher, the other was because my sheriff leader bugged out and I had to feed her to a juggernaut to replace her as leader and complete the legacy storyline.

One of my playthrough, I ignore plaguehearts and infestations (Let them spread, I have 6 infestations at one point). The world is now a harsh and low morale place. lol.

Yeah. Im noticing that it is slowly getting more difficult. I haven't gotten to the point where Im encountering multiple freaks in groups, but I have gotten to the point where juggernauts and ferals are starting to spawn directly outside my base and often participate in seiges. Still on my first playthrough though and havent lost a single survivor.

I guess Im just comparing it to Breakdown and Lifeline, both of which I was losing survivors almost regularly. Especially in regards to Breakdown where the difficutly ramps up very quickly. Im more used to the Lifeline hordes that are a good 20 something zombies in addition to a feral, bloater and juggernaut for good measure...but I guess that makes more sense for the urban environment of Lifeline.

Ive also noticed that Im experiencing far less incidents in regards to resources since moving to the new base. I dont know if this has to do with either higher morale or the firesafe storage which apparently reduces the chance that resources are wasted or something.

Don't know. They decided to release it on a dead platform. No wonder the game is dead already rofl

Seems like people refuse to understand that Microsoft had the final say and news flash pal State of Decay 1 was also a console exclusive game for a while so grow a bit of patience!

After having finished a few legacies I'm probably about done with it. There's really not a there right now. The gameplay loop is basically *Kill a plague heart x10 -> *Do a handful of legacy quests -> Game's finished -> Start next game.

It's actually quite easy to become self sufficient, base attacks are almost meaningless since your survivors handle themselves just fine, as soon as you have access to a car threat in the world becomes extremely low.

There's not a lot to do once your base is set up (which happens quickly) except pander to the enclaves around you who 9 times out of 10 want you to deliver something to them, or else it's a survivor somewhere who needs rescue and then wants to be driven home, or who wants you to drive them somewhere else to kill something.

I had fun the last week but there's just not enough to keep me playing. I wish there was more management, things for my survivors to do except sit in base and wait for me to take over (more than just being +1 labor on a building screen)
