Unfortunately I have to disagree with you about hitting team mates. That's not what this game is about, you can exile survivors via community members. If you are referring to hitting zombies, I don't see what the problem is - you can't phase through your team mates to hit things so attack from a different angle as one normally would.
I've gone through over 30 bullets in a 'fresh' gun, so be sure you check in your supply locker if it is almost damaged (even if it isn't in the yellow, it may still need maintenance. It will display a maintenance cost if that is the case).
Hope this helps and have a wonderful day.
this is extremely game breaking, and does not happen in the first game.
it's also extremely bad when there are zombies behind wooden fences, despite the model and the weapon hitting them, they never get hit, and somehow their zombie claws are able to hit you through it.
As for durability, check out the weapon stats. Melee and ranged. Also character do have multiple skills that actually extends the durability. E.g weapon handling.
Ranged - Sometimes when the gun turns red, it might be jammed, if your character has the correct skill, he's able to unjam it and continue shooting. My maxed out character can unload quite a few clips or use up all his carried ammo on full auto (some weapon can single, burst or full auto) without breaking it...
Melee - To prolong durability, you should use less hits to kill. Certain skills like cutting off the legs and then 1 hit on the grounded zombie instant kill it. There's the shove, the kick, the tackle and flip, etc. Blunt weapons can also be enhanced with skills where you make fewer hits to knock zombie flat and then smash in their heads... Then there's your unbreakable knife...
If all else fails, locate your outposts strategicallly throughout the world map, head to nearest outpost's locker and repair your stuff. Require a workship in home base and a stockpile of parts(broken down from materials).
Anyway, if you play the game, eventually you'll be experienced in the game's nuances...
What SoD2 is, is a perfect example of a game fueled and driven by hype, Twitch, YouTube, ZOMG DISCORED, etc. Social media determines how popular games are... not the actual quality of the game itself or the amount it allegedly 'improves' upon its predecessor.
There are improvements to the original game at every turn for someone who played the first one (126 hours).
Outposts now make more sense to use as outposts compared to just stacking them around your base to kill hordes.
Protect the scavenger missions now have a timer that keeps counting down and isn't dependent on zombies being in the area. Timers have also been added to defense missions.
Fuel adds a new level to vehicles. Being sloppy and forgetting to fill up your tank can leave you stuck in tough spots.
Locations in game now generate resources that make sense. Vet will generate meds and fast food places will generate food.
Weapons now have their own equip locations instead of taking up spots in your bag. You now have pockets.
Of course there are obvious things like improved visuals, added co-op and 3 maps to play in.
The list could go on. Undead labs improved pretty much every aspect of the first game in some way. This game is a love letter to fans of the first SoD.
It's undoubtedly very similar but it's improved in almost every way. As I play I constantly notice something that has been expanded on and improved from the first game. Honestly it's impressive just how far Undead Labs went in giving us fans what we wanted.
Pretty sure some people will enjoy it but i don't see this as GOTY in any way shape or form.
Not GOTY for sure. But for 30 dollars or the ability to play it "free" on a 14 days trial (Enough for you to complete all 4 leaders endings), why not? State of decay 2 is a good game nonetheless albeit its bugs( Heh, they even added a radio call to unstuck ).
Is there any game that's sold for 30 that won GOTY anyway or even nominated? Of course constricting yourself to the concept of GOTY is also bad. You buy and play games that you like at the price you deemed reasonable.
The "1 tile" melee range bugs me as well. Had people down in a doorway should have popped the zed with the bat but you have to roll and pray to get past them.
Billboard ladders on the 2nd to 3rd level is way too close to the edge. If you don't tap the movement to go down and around you will fall off and get messed up very easy.
Watchtowers don't have anyone on top of them shooting? Guy sits at the bottom but nobody ever goes on top?
I like the fuel system makes "drivers" skill a must in my game play.
Base doors still get bugged and will look open and be closed if they don't bug out and just stay open.
Invisible walls and "rocks" in some homes and roads. Kills my cars.
Zombie horde is only 4 red plague zeds? LOL!
Bill Gates just had to put current political division in SOD2. All these anti America and "I knew America would fall but..." statements I really don't want to hear.
I like the hostile living twist, but they run around at light speed making sniping damn near impossible.
Very frequent companion bug they just zoom off or fall under the grid or something.
I haven't tried Co-op its rather been down or too much a risk of loosing a good person due to bugs.
