The Simple Fix
So I read through these forums and tried all the fixes. This is the easy one that works perfectly for me.

Install the game through Steam as normal.
Go into the game's folder under Steam\steamapps\common\Deadlock
Add all the files under the folder to a data ISO using any ISO tool. I used InfraRecorder.
Mount the ISO.
Right click the deadlock.exe inside the mounted ISO and change the compatibility mode to Windows 95.
Launch it.

Big problem. The game is working perfectly, no errors, no crashes. But it is impossible to save.

I found a work around. The issue is that the name entry box is missing. So, if you create a new empty file somewhere with a .SAV extension using Windows Explorer outside of the game, you can then browse for that file in game and select it and save over it. Yay!

That seems a lot of effort for a game on Steam for a couple years now.... Might be simpler to get a nocd crack...

I'm running into an issue where the map veers suddenly to the right when I pick up a unit. Very odd. I'll post if I figure it out.

And it fixed itself. Okay. Just one of those things, I guess.
Thx a lot !! I can play on win 10 by this method. And saving game by creating a file named XXX.SAV.

Thx again !!

If you copy the files from the included PATCH folder over the base game's folder, you can save fine in Windows 10.

This should also be helpful:

That didn't work for me. I see on the linked page it is because it only works on Windows 10 Pro, and most people don't have Pro.

I'm looking for a way for it to work on non-Pro, but so far it seems to be that Microsoft decided to not want to ever include anything useful in other editions. :/

At least running it from an ISO is still working great for me.

so... why is it legal for steam to sell this, but illegal for us to punish them in whatever way we like?
