DRM-free version planned?
I was just wondering if a DRM-free version of I Am Bread is in the works. Originally, you could run the game without Steam after you downloaded it, so it actually WAS DRM-free at one point, but an update locked it to Steam again. Are there any plans to either reverse that or to release the game on GOG.com or the Humble Store?

PC games are usually distributed using steam keys on the humble store and at the moment we are available exclusively on Steam for PC and Mac. The game makes use of many of Steam's useful features so there would be little advantage to abandoning such a great platform at this point.

I don't think you really understood or read what he said...It wouldnt have to "abandon" steam if it could be launched without steam running (still from the steam install) like lots of games on here can be.

Also, that whole sentence is kinda dramatic and inaccurate. There are plenty of advantages to having a DRM free version and really no disadvantages....

Yeah man, I feel your pain. Its really sad that nowadays almost everyone, including this dev here apparently, not only dont even really realize that steam is dressed up drm, but also think that it is "such a great platform" ha yeah, no. Totally aside from it being drm. It is not at all a great platform. If you know anything about software development in the past or now, you should know that steam is, relative to their customer base size and income, pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥. Its archaic really. And before that last major client update a few months ago? Jesus it was 100 times worse. At least now we can open tabs in client....truly groundbreaking stuff...dont even talk about the worst customer service of any major company ever...etc.

Just because steam is the least ♥♥♥♥♥♥ DRM/game download client, that does not make it good. Just less bad. Its too bad most people have no clue anymore :(

When I talk about Steam I don't actually mean the Steam Client. The game utilises features of the Steam SDK such as cloud file storage, leaderboards etc. Removing the dependency on Steam involves reimplementing most of the features which rely on Steam. It doesn't mean it will never be done but having services like this available to you as a developer is one of the strengths of the platform. So it's not simply a case of locking the application to Steam artificially and actually helps us add more features quicker.
