You can try using the built-in Joystick/Gamepad support, but it doesn't work that well. You're probably better off using a program like Xpadder for controller support.
Gotta pass on purchase then, never had much luck with the third party pad software.
I guess there's always the new Tron game.
I can understand why folks might want to use a controller if they're using Steam's Big Picture mode, sitting at the couch. But, honestly, this game plays much better with a keyboard and mouse.
I played the Xbox version of the game, and just could not enjoy the experience with the controller. It doesn't have the precision needed for controlling the Disc to its full potential.
Could just grow a pair and use the NORMAL keyboard + mouse. You're pc gaming for crying out loud, it is not a console.
Like most I use a 360 type controller, is there any plans to patch this game or is it abandonware because noone bought it since its unplayable with modern gaming rigs?
This game looks real good, Im excited to play it, so I hope they fix it so we can play it.
And it's not unplayable on modern PCs. I have it running on Windows 10! In fact, it works just fine as-is on XP/Vista/7/8/10 either downloaded from Steam, or even out of the box if you can find a CD/DVD version for sale.
Like most? Where are you getting your data?
Microsoft just has a foot in the market with their XInput API which officially only works with Xbox 360 gamepads.
But: There are MotioninJoy, x360ce, JoytoKey and various other programs that emulate a 360 controller OR map the controller buttons/axes to actual keyboard keys. The latter one is very useful for this game.
I myself use an old Xbox 1 (1 not One) gamepad since I have really big hands and Microsoft made a big version of that controller years back. Works like a charme, even in 360 console ports.
There will never be an update for this game to support 360 controllers natively.
That is weird because didnt the game support them originally on console? Is the code in this game just disabled? I noticed with Tropico 4 it didnt have controller support, but on PC it truns out they just turned it off but it did have controller support, is this game the same?
The point is, the 360 controller will work. It's just not as simple as plug-and-play, that's all. It will take you a couple of minutes in the game to set up the 360 pad.
Thanks for the info, let me ask are the button prompts from the xbox code in this code? Tropico also had these button prompts and everything just needed to be turned on my mind was blown seeing that on PC it had all that but for some random reason they turned it off. Do you know if this has that? Is that in the code but not in the game meaning is it buried somewhere? Has any users checked this?
On the plus side, at least on PC you'll be able to configure/map the controls on the pad however you want. On the Xbox, if I remember correctly, it's configured one way and if you don't like the default: too bad. You're stuck with the way the controls are mapped/set-up on Xbox. No customization possible.
Anyway, before I go: I just wanted to add, that when people ask if a game has "controller support" they typically mean "can I plug in a 360 controller and it just works without having to do anything". So in that case, the answer is "no" here. You have to enable Gamepad/Joystick from the game's launcher, then set it up to work the way you want. If you don't like the game's built-in options, then a program like Xpadder might be better.
Oh cool, someone who's never heard of a Steam Deck or a PC used only for living room/couch gaming. Not everyone is going to use a K/M, that's how it works in PC land. Please stop this moronic "PC vs console" nonsense. It's played out garbage children do.
