TRON 2.0

TRON 2.0

Horrible lag around ICPs?
Despite using an Nvidia Quadro 2000 and the latest drivers therefor, I have performance problems with Tron 2.0.
In particular, it seems to get worse whenever ICPs are around, and I think it has something to do with their armor texture.
But in general, as well, the game runs poorly, which doesn't make sense when you consider how powerful my machine is.
Using compatibility mode for Windows XP seems to do nothing.
I am using the Killer App Mod, and I can't exactly test to see if this is related to it, as the default game has major, unrelated bugs.

Maybe I need an older version of DirectX or OpenGL?
Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: To anyone else having this problem, the TLDR is you need to turn on VSync. (I know, right? O_o)

This can happen with any AI opponents, not just the ICPs. It's an issue with the game that's been there since the beginning. Turning off Vsync in the game options seems to make it a lot worse.

Sometimes, when AI lose sight of you and start searching, you'll get this hitching and stuttering. Then, as soon as the AI spots you, the game will run smoothly again.

Try turning on Vsync in the game, if it's turned off. Also, make sure your setting for Vsync in the Nvidia Control Panel isn't overriding the game's Vsync setting. This will probably help. (Of course, this will also likely cap the frame rate at 60 FPS on any monitor with a higher refresh rate.)

And, as a bit of additional advice: going to the Display option screen to turn Vsync on or off will reset the resolution, because in-game it won't allow selecting non-4:3 resolutions. You'll have to click the Display button on the TRON 2.0 launcher to pick your widescreen resolution again. (In the next version of the mod, you'll be able to select any resolution on that screen in-game, and it won't reset any more. But, for now, only the launcher was modified to allow selecting non-4:3 resolutions.)

Thanks, I'll have to try that tomorrow. (Very late at night right now.)
Also: resolution's not a problem; I use a 4:3 monitor. :P

You can also download 3DAnalyze and disable T&L in the program - it may help when your CPU is doing all the work:

No need! The game runs beautifully now! VSync is the LAST thing I'd have tried. Thank you so much. This game is wonderful, and I'm happy to be able to play it properly.

I'm curious as to what your rig is? I build classic machines from time to time.

Not a classic machine, not really.

Intel Xeon 8-core 2.4GHz
6GB DDR3 SDRAM
NVidia Quadro 2000
Windows 7 64-bit Professional

It's my gaming machine, for new and old games alike.
A little outdated for a gaming machine, but it's all I've got.
My peripherals, on the other hand, are a bit more retro.

Apple A1048 USB Keyboard (Can't use anything else, I love it too much.)
My mouse is some dinky little USB mouse that came packaged with a Compaq laptop. (I don't know why, but no mouse, no matter how fancy or expensive, has topped it ergonomically for me.)
LG L2000C 1600x1200 60Hz LCD Display. (Rockin' the 4x3 aspect ratio, man!)
Boston BA635 Stereo Speakers (In beige!)

Most of it's pretty old, and well-used, but it's holding up pretty well.

That's not old. I have a QuadCore (with a broken core, so essentially just a TripleCore) with 3GHz, an AMD Radeon 6800 and 4GB of RAM. That is pretty old :) But I can still use it to play most of the current games or edit 1080p videos. ;)

I play on an IBM Model M keyboard - it's like a typewriter on steroids. Awfully loud (can't play at night with my windows open unless I want to anger my neighbor) but the feeling is wonderful :)

A bit late to the party but i fixed mine by turning on "Disable fullscreen optimizations" from the compatibility tab.

Man, that notification was a blast from the past. I still have the keyboard!

Yeah wow. I'm sad to report the machine I detailed above has been gone for years. Still using that Apple keyboard though!
Good timing, actually. I was planning on returning to this game soon and actually finishing it. :)

a nother one late to the party here but for maybe helpful for people in the future.
apparently the games doenst like high refresh rates, the fix for me was to turn my monitor down from 144hz to 50hz in the display options in windows
