TRON 2.0

TRON 2.0

Windows 10 and DirectX 9.0a
I was following the LDSO video on getting Tron 2.0 to work on Windows 10.

I ran into a problem when I get to the step of running Tron 2.0 for the first time that LDSO did not get.

Pushing "Play" --> "High Detail" --> black window --> error message.

The error message states: "Error initializing the renderer. To play Tron 2.0 you need DirectX 9.0a installed and a video card that supports hardware TnL."

I tried installing DirectX 9.0c for June 2010, but that didn't work. (I don't need 9.0a if I have 9.0c, right?)

Any further suggestions?

If installing the DirectX June 2010 redistributable didn't help, then you might need to update the driver for your video card/chip. I've had more than one person contact me regarding that error, and updating their video driver usually solved it. I'm guessing something that became broken in the video driver installation gets repaired by this.

You could try hitting the Windows + R keys, type "dxdiag" without quotes, and check to see it shows any errors on the Display tab.

If it was just a black screen, and no error message, then the tip in schmatzler's guide may have helped.

EDIT: I forgot that if you have more than one GPU (like if you have both a discrete video card/chip, and integrated graphics on the CPU), it's possible the game is using the wrong one. If you click the Display button on the game's launcher, at the bottom under "Displays" you should be able to select the GPU you want and click OK. Or, you might have to go into the Nvidia or AMD settings and create a profile for the game (using Lithtech.exe) that uses the "High performance" GPU or disable "Dual Graphics".
