Your Steam profile says you've played TRON 2.0 for 20 hours, so that means the game was at least working before. But now isn't, for some reason.

That error could be caused by a number of things, but three things to look out for:

  • There might not be enough free space on the drive where the Windows TEMP folder is kept, or the game doesn't have permission to write to the TEMP folder.
  • Did you install any mods or add-ons, for the game? (You didn't mention any details.)
  • Try using Steam's "Verify integrity of the game cache" feature. One or more of the game files may have gone corrupt. But do this last, after looking into the other two suggestions above.

Well I did play this all the way through on my laptop, I just installed it on my new computer.

All right, fair enough. :)

But I still don't know if there's enough drive space where the Windows TEMP file is located (or if the game has permission to write there, maybe an anti-virus/anti-malware program is causing trouble), if you've tried mods (now, or in the past), or if you've checked the integrity of your game cache, on the new computer.

Also, maybe the Steam Cloud feature downloaded backups of your old TRON 2.0 config files from before, and that's causing trouble now?

Without more details, it's tough to form many theories as to what the problem could be.

Alight I haven't tried the things you talked about yet.

I have the same issue. First I had issues with getting the game to run at all, permission issues. Now the Dll issue.
I used to play the game with mods a long time ago , but since then went though 2 windows installs , and 2 game installs.
Running windows 10 right now,

Neither of you guys are using an Insider Preview version of Windows 10, correct? Because even though I'm in the Insider Preview program, I've stayed away from the latest test versions of Windows 10. They're simply too broken at the moment, causing all sorts of issues with applications and games. (I'm just checking every possibility.)

Other than the things I've already mentioned, I don't know what else could be causing the "Missing shell DLL cshell.dll" error. Again, I'll bring up the possibility that if you played the Steam version of the game before with mods, the Steam Cloud feature might be downloading backed up config files from the last time you played. This could cause the issue, if you're playing the game unpatched/unmodded now.

Something simple you could do, is to delete the file launchcmds.txt in your Tron 2.0 folder. It probably won't work, but it's worth a try. The other thing you can try, is to at least install the Unofficial Patch listed in schmatzler's guide.

I played a CD version a long time ago, had rez mods on it.
Using Windows 10 Pro fully upgraded version.
The game is unpatched and all extra files were cleaned from PC, as far as I know.
The only thing I can think of is that there is some left over mod files somewhere on my PC that is messing it up.

By "fully upgraded" I'll take that to mean you're using the latest official version of Windows 10, and not one of the newer test versions.

Other than deleting launchcmds.txt, try installing the Unofficial Patch I mentioned in my previous post.

Its Regular Win 10 64 Pro. no test OS.

But the good news is I found a solution to the problem.
Here is what I ended up doing. (The short solution version) The long version has a lot of uninstall, file shuffling etc.
All files can be found at tronfaq.blogspot

1) Installed Replacement Tronlauncher.exe
2) Installed Unofficial Tron Patch 1.042

Here is when I tried first run , since the KA mod woul not run until this was done.

So I DISABLED the antivirus.

Quit the game after launching first run.
Installed KA mod and everything ran fine.

Ah, yeah I mentioned this in one of my previous posts in this topic. That an anti-virus/anti-malware program may be interfering when the game starts.

The game writes to the Windows TEMP directory, every time it's started. It copies cshell.dll into the TEMP folder. If the game is blocked from doing that, then it won't launch and you get that error.

Thank you for providing a solution, and also for confirming something I'd suspected as a possible cause.

Yes I tried again with the antivirus back on and it wouldnt launch. so always have to disable it or put an exception for the game.
