Note that if the installer is saying you need to run the game first, before continuing, it hasn't actually done anything yet. It isn't until after files are copied, to the destination directory, that the installer actually starts modifying anything.
Done everything suggested in that thread.
No luck. And no, I know that Killer App hasn't been installed at all. It won't let me because I CAN'T run the game yet.
I also found out I can't even run it unpatched/vanilla, though it creates a different error (Black screen followed by MFCClient has stopped working.) So for some reason the Windows 10 patch is broken for me too.
That is definitely strange. It's possible either your autoexec.cfg or player.txt profile has become corrupt. The game doesn't gracefully handle unexpected corruption in those files, and will simply crash.
Also, what video card/chip and sound card/chip do you have? Have you installed any codec packs, such as K-Lite? Driver and codec issues are some of the most common reasons for the game crashing.
The "Windows 10 update" for the Steam version of TRON 2.0, didn't actually update the game. Due to the vague wording in the update notice article, a lot of people think the game itself was fixed/enhanced for Windows 10. Nope. No version of TRON 2.0 has received any Windows 10 update. (Steam, GOG, and definitely not Retail disc.)
But then, it never needed it. All versions of the game have always run just as well on Windows 10, as they did on previous versions of Windows.
What was updated, was an extra launcher program added exclusively to the Steam release, which was flawed. The launcher (not the game) could crash on 10, thus preventing the game from starting when you click Play. There was a community fix that solved the issue, and was necessary for close to 3 years. The update finally eliminated the need for this community fix (and it was only just recently removed from the Steam community guide because of that).
I have an nVidia GTX 970. I do not have a sound card, actually. I'm a pleb who has been content just plopping in my nice expensive headphones.
I've actually Run Tron 2.0 with this computer before. I think that was back on Windows 7 tho, but I could be wrong.
What can I do about the autoexec.cfg/player.txt if those are the issues? I keep trying to play the game from fully fresh installs... :(
As for codecs... hrm, is K-Lite apart of the Combined Community Codec Pack? That's another thing I KNOW I've ran Tron 2.0 with before... but still I guess it could be a part of it. I've never installed any codecs outside of the CCCP, at least not to my knowledge.
But, for autoexec.cfg it would actually be best to download a default version of it, and overwrite the existing one.
(Hopefully this download link isn't removed, it's just a text file anyway)

K-Lite isn't part of CCCP, but they both add codecs and change the priority of codecs used by Windows. I'm not familiar with the latest version of CCCP these days, but if it disabled or lowered the priority of a certain audio codec used by the game (MS ACM), it could be responsible for the crashing.
It's on sale at GOG right now for $3.39 USD until December 26th, 2017.
Both the Steam and GOG releases are the Retail disc version with official patches pre-applied. But, for some reason, GOG elected to go with v1.030 of the game. While the Steam release is v1.042 (the last official update).
Maybe GOG thought the older v1.030 is more stable, but I never really noticed a difference.
At any rate, the Unofficial v1.042 patch and all mods will work with the GOG version, just like they do with the Steam and Retail versions.
I deleted Autoexec and used the one you posted, that seems to have done the trick! I just installed Killer App and it seems to be running fine. Thanks for the help, and thanks for the awesome mod!
No problem. And thanks! :)
