TRON 2.0

TRON 2.0

About the TRON: Evolution DRM
It's brought to my attention after watching the newest Jim Sterling video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yUmR6eQNrY
that this game had just, a few months ago, been entirely removed off Steam and is disallowing people to reinstall and play the game. Is there a risk that here too may come to the same fate? Does this game have a hidden DRM inside of it? I literally just re-bought this game last week having lost my original physical disk over a decade ago. It's a baffling coincidence that I get a TRON game recently only to have another TRON game come to attention to be wiped from existence.

I don't think there's much reason to worry. TRON 2.0 doesn't have a type of DRM that uses external activation servers. Same goes for TRON RUN/r. What happened with TRON Evolution, is Disney decided to stop paying SecuROM for those activation servers. Disney doesn't have to pay any ongoing "maintenance" fees like that, to keep selling 2.0 and RUN/r here on Steam.

Also, if a contract with Daft Punk expiring was indeed the reason for TRON Evolution being removed from sale in the first place, that won't happen with TRON 2.0, either. Disney didn't license the music in TRON 2.0. They own it. (I'm not sure what the situation is with RUN/r, regarding the music.)

To top it all off, in the guide I mentioned to you previously: Installing the patch listed there, gets rid of the DRM on the Steam version of TRON 2.0. (TRON RUN/r, on the other hand, would need a warez scene crack to get rid of the DRM.)

And for folks who don't want to deal with fan made patches, there's always the DRM-free GOG version of TRON 2.0 . . .
