Will steam bring Civilization II classic?

With it being a 16-bit executable (in almost all editions, I think), it would be difficult, given it won't run on 64-bit OSes, and there's no simple emulation solution like there is for DOS games.

I can play the multiplayer gold edition just fine on 64 bit Windows 7. I can't remember if I needed some sort of fan ompatibility patch to make it work, but even if I did the fact that a patch exists that means it could be fixed without serious difficulty.

I have a vague feeling MP Gold was the only version that works, presumably because they rebuilt it as 32bit.

Civ II normal version is a 16 bit Windows game and can be played in any 32 bit version of windows but not 64 bit. It can be played on any computer by running windows 3.11 in dosbox but obviously you need to own a windows 3.11 licence and it is useless for anyone wishing to distribute the game on steam.

Short of rebuilding it from source (if anyone has that), or running in a VM (but not DOSBox, it isn't advanced enough), nothing will make it run on a 64-bit system.

Can run gold edition on win11 native, confirmed.

Patch present for non-gold edition as well, tested on win10 64 bit.

There was a 64-bit patch a long time ago for Civ2, I have MPG and ToT working on a windows 11 machine.
