Is it updated with the colv30 patch?
My question is a bit unfair. Meaning that I've just noticed it wasn't the colv30 since it got a few bugs which were solved with the colv30 patch.

To be more specific, I hate this stupid restriction about the cathedral. Supposely unlocked for cities with at least 8 people, it's actually needing 16 people. And if I'm right, this is fixed with the colv30 patch. :)

Do you think there is a way to patch our game up without messing up with the steam interface?!

Is that version more stable?

What's up with Steam not releasing the latest version. I suppose it could be patched to the Steam folder and launched from there even without Steam, so it is with other games, like Total Annihilation.

Or the folder could be copied or moved elsewhere, launching that one from a shortcut.

tried myself to patch the 3.0 version to my steam colonization folder and the game crashes at start ... so i backedup my 2.2 Steam Version.
If anyone know how to update to 3.0 safely (multi language please) just tell me i'll be glad

there is no way to contact Steam support for Colonization but we must try them to give us the latest updates for this game. I heard about a Win version of Classic colonization but i can't find it anywhere. Steam shall give us both 3.0 patch for the dos version and the ColWin Version. Where can we get heard about ?

You can get the windows version here, you can buy a one day or one month download pass for unlimited downloads during the plan you choose. https://www.old-games.com/download/5156/colonization-for-windows

Hi there, I managed to update the German version:

- download patch from https://www.patches-scrolls.com/dl.php?file=colger.zip
- open colger.zip and extract COLUP30G.ZIP to your Colonization folder: Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Colonization\MPS\COLONIZE ; overwrite if asked
- new version should be 2.31 (I read thats the 3.0 German)
- enjoy

Steam has nothing to do with these updates. It's the publisher's job to keep their products up to date. Steam's job is just to distribute the version that the publisher has uploaded. If that version is outdated, you need to contact the publisher (in this case, Retroism / Night Dive) and ask them to update it.

I don't have this in Steam, but I do have a CD with both DOS and Windows versions (though annoyingly, without the audio tracks for the Windows version).

I just manually tried each file in the DOS version one by one.. my starting point was 2.25 English. I identified that the file that causes the crash is VICEROY.EXE. Copying VICEROY.EXE from the German "3.0" patch changes the game version to 2.31 and it doesn't crash on startup now.

So that's what you need to do, copy all the files from the English 3.0 patch into the Colonization directory, then copy only VICEROY.EXE from the German patch into the Colonization directory.

Update: In FreeDOS 1.3 the VICEROY.EXE from the English patch does work and reports as version 3.0. It might need a lot more conventional RAM for MS-DOS. 3.0 patch also works in PC-DOS 2000.

So the problem is with MS-DOS 6.22.

Steam isn't running MS-DOS though..
