If anyone know how to update to 3.0 safely (multi language please) just tell me i'll be glad
- download patch from https://www.patches-scrolls.com/dl.php?file=colger.zip
- open colger.zip and extract COLUP30G.ZIP to your Colonization folder: Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Colonization\MPS\COLONIZE ; overwrite if asked
- new version should be 2.31 (I read thats the 3.0 German)
- enjoy
I just manually tried each file in the DOS version one by one.. my starting point was 2.25 English. I identified that the file that causes the crash is VICEROY.EXE. Copying VICEROY.EXE from the German "3.0" patch changes the game version to 2.31 and it doesn't crash on startup now.
So that's what you need to do, copy all the files from the English 3.0 patch into the Colonization directory, then copy only VICEROY.EXE from the German patch into the Colonization directory.
Update: In FreeDOS 1.3 the VICEROY.EXE from the English patch does work and reports as version 3.0. It might need a lot more conventional RAM for MS-DOS. 3.0 patch also works in PC-DOS 2000.
So the problem is with MS-DOS 6.22.
Steam isn't running MS-DOS though..
