Anna's voice
not trying to be mean or anything, and it's only my opinion, but i find Anna's voice kinda annoying. maybe not her voice, but the way her lines are being read. it kinda reminds me of Daniel Faraday in Lost when he goes back in time to the 70s and was so sure he knew how to fix things. sounded like he was overacting in a dramatic way to the point it almost sounded unnatural. the way some of Anna's lines are spoken sound kinda unnatural. Ben the bear sounded more natural. just saying. i dunno why i'm posting here. i like the game though. byeee

ps. i think some of her lines are done nicely too

It's nails on blackboard unpleasant, and she's not the only one. Especially with how slooooooooooooow everyone speaks.

Agree with OP on this one - tried out the demo and voice acting leaves to be desired (I mean, it's not terrible, but completely devoid of emotional feedback to some quite twisted stuff happening around main character, and also it's a clearly adult voice Anna is speaking with - you can have perfectly serviceable and emotional lines delivery with child-like voice, just find a more suitable actor).
I'd rather have no voice-over than underwhelming performance, especially in genre that lives or dies by its engaging story and narrative abilities.

Actually, same goes for the graphics that I have a serious gripe with in this game, as well as some other Daedalic titles.
If you happen to trick people into buying your game with pretty screenshots and promise of high-def visuals, then you better make sure to provide appropriate HQ animation, too... At least, for lip syncing, because in either Deponia or in this game the lip animation is distractingly choppy. There are several frame interpolation technologies/techniques out there that would help on easing the animators' task without the need to create a frame-set for every single distinctive combination of syllables.

Also, cut the freaking "um", "you see", "well", "oh", "ah", "arghle", "gargle" and other unnecessary noises out of dialogs - i know there's a need to stretch the time spent with the game, but some players will end up just skim-reading the subtitles and skipping 90% of the dialogs, occasionally missing by accident one important piece of information.

Very cute art style, though.

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one who feels this way. I actually don't mind the *sound* of Anna's voice but the delivery of the lines is just grating; they're not genuine. I mean, could she sound any LESS sincere about wanting to see her grandfather again or any LESS surprised by a ghost when she enters a room? Even when she's putting her hand in gross places she doesn't sound *actually* grossed out. It's like every event or thing that happens holds the exact same emotional weight; truly desiring to escape the clutches of a cackling kidnapper who threatens to eat her gets the same-sounding response as finding a pretty wedding ring on a table in a grungy basement. There's no sense of urgency coming from Anna. Either that, or in this universe talking toys, foxes, mirrors, 60-year-old ghosts and superpowers are so commonplace that there's not much room left for awe and wonderment.

I have only just finished my first playthrough of the 2nd act and I'm thinking of changing the vocals to any other language to see if Anna's delivery is better there. I loved Joringel's delivery and the witch was perfectly fine. Ben just sounds like a female actor with a similar-sounding voice to Bart Simpson which is fine, too, because she's at least trying to play a posessed teddy bear honestly enough. Anna just doesn't seem to care that really strange and dark things are happening to her. And, yes, she talks waaaaaay toooooo slooooooow. I blame the editor(s) for that. You can easily shorten up silences in between words in audio software. Maybe this game was intended for a much younger audience than I expected and they need slower dialogue.

Anna's awkward voice it what stopped me after 15 minutes. I don't care what the rest of story is, but I refuse to listen to a clearly adult woman acting out a child's voice by simply softening her tone and slowing down het speech like she's on valium. This woman does nothing to mimic the active tone, the higher pitch and the lack of crackling little girls use in their speech.

Man, this is awkward. I've never had voice acting smack me in the face like this. I have a girl that age myself and if she spoke english she'd do a much, much better job at this.

Please Deponia, use better judgement casting your voice actors. Because I'm getting my money back for this one.

gonna necrothread to say YES its not even that its "bad", its just not the right voice for whats supposed to be like a 10 year old girl, the voice actress sounds like a 26 year old doing asmr on youtube with a side gig on onlyfans lol. Cheesy voice acting to an extent can be charming and even add to games, but.. this was like an egregious miscast. i stopped after her first 3 lines or so lol.
Been really interested in getting into this game for years, 1.99 was like a steal i thought but... yeesh..
