If you do not update them, the games will not guarantee their execution on your PC.
I have managed to get into the game twice now, but when i restart the pc, i have the same problem all over again.. this is what keeps happening " and " what i gotta do to join..
I double click BHD to play a game...nothing pops up.. and steam says its playing which its not. so i go to the windows tab and press on " restart " to force BHD to stop running without a full restart.. then i click on BHD again then it loads up..
Really annoying and never had this problem

Most of the other Delta Force games are also affected by this bug.
The reason the game will start for you if you kill the Delta Force exe using the task manager is because the rundll32 process is still running. But then when you restart your PC, that kills the rundll32 process and now you have the same probelm.
1 Open Task Manager & Windows Explorer
2 Open Game-Directory for DFBHD
3 Start the 'Lan-Client version'
4 Then start DFBHD itself
5 Close the 'LAN-Client version' in Task Manager
6 Close both Windows Explorer, and Task Manager
7 Commence with the lethal 'Toe-Shots'
The reason that works is because when you started the LAN-client version, you also triggered the Games Explorer check (rundll32.exe) to Microsoft's servers. When you closed it and then launched the main game, the check was still running so a duplicate check was skipped.
So, the game will run, but rundll32.exe will be constantly pinging Microsoft's servers the whole time. Make sure you close rundll32.exe in the Task Manager after the main game launches or you'll have that constant network spam going on in the background the whole time.
The new method is preferrable because it doesn't seem to have any side effects with games like BioShock that require gameux.dll to be enabled.
Interesting reddit post, being that I never knowingly used 'Games Explorer' to start my games, it was interesting to learn about 'that side' of what is going-on.
Been an age since using Regedit, despite not having any issues with the BHD titles, I'll do Option #1, just to cover my bases.
BTW, after reading that very informative link,
I have to agree with CHUCKY:
"You're The Man"...
Much 'Respect'.
