Is it intended that you take damage when discarding items from your backpack using the Q key?

The fossil at around 90 meters just launched into my face and then over my head when i dug it out, never to be seen again... So now after more then 15 hours digging out the entire hole i need to start all over if i want to get that achievement...

How do you finish the game? I have mined out every last scrap of dirt from the hole. It is empty. I have collected all the things. Is my game bugged?

can this game be played with a Xbox controller?
