Difference between flash versions?

3 years ago, I used to play the flash version of this game on Kongregate. it was pretty fun blasting my friends. Recently, I came across Shellshock Live on steam. I'm wondering what is the difference between the steam version and the flash versions (1 and 2) of this game. Should I purhase it?

I've read the stickied post, but is the progression the same as the flash versions? Do you have to grind matches to level up and unlock weapons? Do you have to pay via microtransactions to unlock new weapon packs?
