Can you team up before going into Multiplayer match?

Am wondering if I can partner up with a friend before entering MP

When a player joins a TDM (or any other team-based gamemode) match they can select which team they want to be on (T1, T2 or random)

So how would that work? From a lobby both me and friend would choose same game and hope that we'll both make it in, and hope that we can be on same team? Also can you create a game for your friend to join? Lastly can you create a game with password in it?

If you're hosting your own lobby you can set it to Friends Only, that way it can't be joined by randoms (there is no password option, as this is sort of an alternative). You can invite people to your lobby through your steam friends list and steam chat (I believe there is also an invite button in the lobby menu but i'm not 100% sure).
When your friend joins, set all the match settings to however you want them to be and join the same team. When you're all set up you can turn Friends Only off to allow everyone else join.

If you're trying to join someone else's lobby, then it depends. It depends on how full the lobby is (obviously, if there are multiple free spaces then it's less likely for someone to join instead of you or your friend), if the host doesn't mind you teaming up, if the host isn't a douchebag etc.
