The Villages around the LongBeards are pretty friendly in the beginning...
But - Im not very knowlegdeable in this game at all yet..
I failed.
They really called that?
maybe do some migration go around sacking everything not quite sure how to get decent eco as this tribe but determined to complete the game as them before i play anyone else.
As soon as you have a rebellion you get a +20 to happiness every roll for 5 rolls. So it's best to leave it alone till your back to neutral or are darn close to it before attacking and removing the rebels.
"cant get much eco either."
Build Taverns, Wells, Church Sites, and Artisans in province capitals. Wells, Farms, and Artisans in the minor citys. Might want to build in this order also.
Allot of the factions near WRE and ERE are best off abandoning and migrating into Roman lands. Doing so gets you all the other factions favor and gives you time to focus on one enemy faction.
Your goal is to gain allies and tribute states. Waring with any nations other than the WRE, ERE & Huns will cause diplomatic problems in the long term. Once you have taken half the known world all that will be left are the Sassinds and they will be stacked will allies and tributes. You can go the route of being the only military might and take them basicaly alone or start a UN. I'll note that having more allies and tributes cuts down on micromanaging immensely! You mark a Target on the Diplomatic map and watch all the armys descend like the plague. This will allow for a major East vs West show down at the end of your campaign. The more allies the easyier of course.
So far in every campaign I've done I abandoned my settlement on the first roll. Then took the next 5-10 rolls moving to my destination. As long as you don't upgrade your "Horde" you can save all your money till you get to your destination. Since you didn't have time to build your armys you pick up Mercs for one roll. Use them to take a city then disband them. Then I play as if I started there.
Haven't lost yet. I took the Langobards to Ireland. Then took the whole British Island from North to South. Then moved South into WRE lands and finally into Spain and North Africa.
I tried a Jute campaign where I left on the first roll and sailed all the way down to the Sassinds Empire. I went to war right off the bat and was destroyed by 15 full stack armys all rolling together.
So truly you can go where ever you want as long as you go to war with the Romans first. If you don't your looking at a long and slow growning campaign.
To sum it up. Race into Roman lands and take, take, take, till you start rebellions. Then stop and build an empire.
And as always the best TTW tactic has and always will be Zerg rushing with starting crap units. By the time you have run into an army that can stop two of your crap you already have 1/2 the known world...

This is at roll 88. Keep in mind no building is above a tier 2. Almost all are tier 1. Libya as you can see by my 3 building armys is my one military province. The rest are goat farms.
I only have 12 armys in the field but due to allies and tribute states I have like 30. Everything Green and Blue including the Sarah is under my direct control. I attacked from the south while I sent them in from the North. You can see the armys still on the march from my call to arms in a massive pintcher move for the win. True TTW. Once everyone is cleaned out leaving my allies and tributes it's classic divide and conquer.
As soon as you have a rebellion you get a +20 to happiness every roll for 5 rolls. So it's best to leave it alone till your back to neutral or are darn close to it before attacking and removing the rebels. Otherwise you remove the +20 bonus and have to build your happiness the slow way over 10 or more rolls.
Not sure if it works this way in Rome 2 but in Attila no doubt.
Just fyi..
I immediately befriended the people around me and went to war with the Vandals (those are the neighbors I believe who hate you from the start), don't upgrade any buildings that add squalor unless you have proper sanitation.
A lof ot the population happiness has to do with what buildings you make etc.
I, personally didn't have too much trouble.
As I said, befriend those who are next to you and build the right buildings.
I also invaded Britain, but before I did that I built up my army and used Ireland as a staging point.
