Axe vs sword?

Is there any reason to pick swordmen if you can get axemen? I guess if the enemy has alot of light armor or if they dont have any...but is there any faction that has lightarmor? that of c is not just first tier units.

Isn't the axe just plain better than the sword but the unit itself is worst in stat wise.

Don't ever use one handed axe units in MP. They suck. All of the one handed axe units have horrible stats all around and no amount of AP and bonus vs infantry will help them. They just flat out lose to swords. Doesn't really matter in SP as you start out slowly while fighting spearmen levies and cheap swords. For example, with the Saxons, the Nordic Axe Warband is the first decent unit you can get. They will serve you quite well in SP. Two handed axes, on the other hand, are the best weapons in the game. Units that carry the two handed axe (Dane Axe) will destroy everything on the charge. That's due to high base attack, high base damage, high charge bonus and on top of all that a 20 bonus vs infantry that the Dane Axe has. Huscarls beat everything in a straigth one on one engagement. Every Dane Axe unit will do excellent in melee. The problem is that they have no shields, so skirmishers will make short work of them.
