Small Romans?

Doesn't anyone else think that the roman soldiers look about 30% smaller then the barbarians?

Height of the human models seems to be random. Human models in units are not of uniform height. With that said, yeah, i noticed that the Romans are a bit smaller. From various skeletal evidence found troughout Italy, the average height of the ancient Romans seems to have been very short. Something around 160cm, or at least something between 155cm and 175cm (which would be rather "tall" for them). By Vegetius, a writer from the 4th century, the minimum height for a soldier was 170cm. It was later shortened (pun intended) to 165cm. That's very short!

Wow, thanks for the info! I kind of guessed they had a reason behind it, but it does make all my men look like they a fighting giants.

Well Romans did write as the Northern tribes as being very pale and giants, since some Germanics where 1.90cm compared to alot of Romans being around 150-160cm. Although that might just be exageration from the Romans to make their enemies sound more fearsome and dangerous and beating them all the more gloriess. I mean if they wrote they where regular men with long hair and no armor, where would the glory be in beating them?

It's not random at all, there is a table that controls model heights, and romans are set shorter in there than some other factions. There is also a variance set to each height that the game can use i.e +/-0.1

I meant random as in every model being of different instead of uniform height in a unit. Romans are indeed shorter than the rest.
